Question about Projection Televisions

My Magnavox LCD TV made some crackling noises inside the cabinet, and now it will not go on until I keep pressing the power button for about ten minutes. Then, the screen will flash bright white lights every so often. The little green light at the bottom right hand corner flashes on and off for several minutes. Then, without warning, the picture finally comes on the screen. I went through this proceedure every morning for several weeks. This morning nothing would come on. Not even the little green light. Can this be repaired? What is your estimate of cost. It was a $1400 set. Thank You

It blinks regulary every second for 10 minutes, at least. The white light flashes once or twice in short bursts, then stops unless I hit the power button several times quickly. It does not stay on---just quick flashes.

I have given sweet rascal all the info he requested, but he has come forth with no information as to what may be wrong with my Magnavox LCD TV. Someone else please give me some help. Thank You. Henry Tobler

The response from Jigsaw sounds plausable, but another analysis would help me make a decision as to whether the cost of repairs might make it more reasonable to buy a new TV. How much does a circuit board for this model cost? What would the total job, i.e., labor and other materials likely add up to? Thanks for your help. Hank Tobler

  • hftobler1930 Aug 14, 2008

Yes! I am completely satisfied with the results. Junoon007 and Jigsaw are A#1 in my book. Thank you. I will refer this site to dozens of friends and acquaintences. Hank Tobler

The majority of LCDs failed due to a defective or almost dying power supply. In a few occasions the inverter board that control the light fail as well.
A fair price to pay for a repair is about 1/3 of the price of that LCD or if it's less then a year old, it will be still under manufacturers warranty.
Let me know if you need further assistance.

Sir,

Try to unplug it from the wall and plug it back. This will force a cold reboot, which may help.

Also check...... The blinking power light seems to me to suggest that the driver for the backlight, or at least something in the (switched) power supply, is toast. Usually it's the transformers, sometimes the transistors that do the switching. This is actually not that difficult to repair, but you'll need to bring it to an electronics repair shop. I would say $50 diagnosis, and $100 repair are the most it should cost. Anything above that might be a bit extravagant. Always ask for estimates before any work is done,

thanks
good luck

This is due to a power surge which may have affected the main board. Was their any storms lately in ur area. You need to change the circuit board of the LCD.

Hope this helps. Yes i know it sucks when ur TV dies but investing in a surge protector is the best investment

37 INCH LCD MAGNAVOX TV WILL NOT TURN ON. MUST BE

This problems, very common in LCD tv,after the tv was in used about a year or two.The new technalogy LCD tv don't handle heat very well, not like the old CRT Tube Tvs.The power supply board tend to have bad capacitors componnents leakage, that bulges up it top or puff up gases escape, that why it take times or couples pushes to the power botton to turn the tv on.U know basic electronic's,and have soldering tools and solders?Take the tv aparts, check for these bad capacitors, that bulges, puff up in the power supply board and replaced them, than ur power will work normal again.Or tries Websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a whole refurbish power supply board for the replacement.

Wavey color lines at bottom of picture. Crackling noises coming from back bad picture

Howdy;
The "crackling noises" from the back is causing the picture to distort. 1) Either locate source of "noise" and correct or 2) Call a Service Company and get corrected. I would recommend that you DO NOT USE TV until this corrected. It may cause a fire inside your TV.

Good Luck, Big Irish.

I have a philips magnavox tv with the original remote. closed caption constantly (writing script)comes on tv screen, even though the remote has a cc button,i press it until cc off comes on, the cc goes off...

You're not doing anything wrong. Your TV is somehow turning the cc on "all by itself". Some bit is getting flipped inside the TV, turning the cc on.

either that or there is some sort of rf or ir interference near the TV that is mimicking the CC button on the remote.

Have you pressed the cc button on the remote, verified the cc is "off" on the TV and then removed the batteries from the remote for a while to make sure there isn't something hinky with the remote???
