Am writing to you from the Caribbean Island of St. Lucia seeking some assistance in finding out what might be wrong with my 3785 Vivitar camera.
I had some pics on a memory card and attempted to put them on my computer. Just then I was distracted for a moment and inadvertently unplugged the USB from the computer without closing the files. I attempted to put off the camera but it would not go off but the green light turned red and no matter how many times I tried to put it off the red light would not go out nor work. I tried taking out the batteries and then it came off, but every time I put on the camera with the memory disc in, the camera would not work.
I still have been unable to see these pictures on the memory disc, this happen 6 months ago. I tried purchase another disc, formatted it and still the camera refuses to work.
Can you help or tell me what's wrong with my camera? I would really love for you to respond to me.
Whenever you pull out a USB drive like that-it will affect your camera and computer sometimes. To remove (i know it was an accident but just as a heads-up) a USB drive safely go to the bottom right hand corner, and press the green arrow which should be ur USB drive. that will unplug it safely. if you don't see that than you can either click on the arrow to find it or it might be a different icon. just scroll over the icons until you find 'Safely Remove Hardware" and there you have it

May try some stuff called Goof Off. it works on most. if not try carb cleaner. If that dont work paint "Lemon" on the side. Maybe that will be a deterant.
Thanks for your support.
I solved my problem by dumping my Nikon Cool Pix 8700 and I bought another camera and It will never be NIKON for me again!
Thanks again

hi...The transmission system that moves the lens in and out has a problem with it's gears. There is most likely a gear or an actuator that has fallen out of alignment and is getting stuck at a certain point as the lens comes in/out.There is some disturbacnce of the lens arrangement that is preventing the lens from coming in/out.Any of these symptoms above could trigger the camera to shut itself off to protect itself from further damage. thank u rate me!!!
After the basics (cleaning the lens, replacing the batteries, etc.), try dropping the camera on a carpeted area from about 2-3 feet. It worked for my Fuji A500 and 90% of the responders on the link.Everything on the web said it would cost ~$100 to fix.I was in the process of researching new cameras to buy and had nothing to lose by dropping it on the floor.
The error may be caused by debris in the zoom mechanism preventing it from working.Dropping the camera loosens the debris and voila!
