Under front of dryer, there are two 5/16" machine screws which hold the kick plate on. Remove these for access.

If you have to"push start" the motor to get it going, you will need to replace the motor. The windings have become weak and cannot get the initial start cycle going. Here is the motor to order.

The part comes with a 365 day, any part, any reason return policy.

I am a little puzzled! Normally the difficulty is with startup rather than stopping after starting. Are you sure that the drum actually turns or maybe it just sounds like it is turning? If it never actually turns then it is probably the belt or the motor. You can make sure by placing only a few items in the dryer (try a couple towels or different colors) place the towels inside, (pay attention to where they are) begin the cycle, open the door to see if the towels have changed position. If the drum has been rotating then try adding a few more items to see if things change.
If the drum does not turn at all it maybe the drum belt. If, as you increase the load, the drum has difficulty starting then it is probably the motor or a control circuit. Hope this helps...Good Luck. Douglas

The motore will run, but it is not spinning. The motor smells hot when it is running and not spinning.

Dryers have a drive belt that turns the clothes drum. If the belt breaks, the drum stops rotating. Then you need to replace the belt.
Here is a link to the belt.

Whirlpool elec dryer, very loud and stops spinning.

The belt is probably bad and the noise is most likely the guide wheel for the drum

Replaced broken washer belt, but drum still won't spin.

you may have a bad bearing in a pulley, could be motor coupling. Take belt off and spin motor shaft and pulley both ways if it's free, then its more than likely not the motor. Now spin the drum with belt off and see if it does the same as with the belt on if it does it has to be a bad bearing or coupling to the drum. hope this helps

Dryer drum won't turn. It has power, the door is shut tight

The belt can be replaced as follows.
1 remove top and front of dryer shell
2 belt goes around drum around motor pully then under tentioner wheel
3 replace front and top of dryer
(top pops off use a slotted screw driver)

Won't spin or start

Sounds like the screen/sock combo got the tub in a bind and the drum belt broke.

If you want to pursue replacing the belt, let me know.

Amana dryer belt?

Good Afternoon,
The main culprit here is the drum rollers, they need to be replaced and you have to remove the belt and drum to get to the rollers, so you might as well replace the belt also. If you are fixing this yourself do this: Clean the roller shafts with light Emery Cloth then wipe dry with a damp cloth. Get some "Hi Temp" Lithium grease, put it on the shaft and also on the inside bushing of the new rollers. Be careful not to get any grease on the threaded part of the shaft or on the rubber part of the roller.
I hope I helped you today and thank you for using FixYa!

Dryer motor spindle mounts, which are made of hard rubber, are worn. There is a lot of play and the machine vibrates very loudly. There isn't an obvious way to remove/replace the mounts. Any suggestions...

Some motors are not accessible to replacing any parts. I would guess that many of today's dryers are that way, not sure about yours. It sounds like things are too tight on your drum/belt/motor assembly because of your having to give the drum some help. There should be some kind of adjustment on the drive wheel that the belt that goes around the drum starts on. If you loosen the adjustment enough to let it 'breathe' a little and not be so tight, that might be the genesis of your situation. As far as replacing the bearings in the motor, you probably will have to replace the motor since as I mentioned many of today's motors have no user accessible parts to replace.
