Question about Goodman Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

A contractor installed a Goodman condenser (new) for my son last november but never tested it,(too late in season). This summer my son tried to use it, the condenser fan comes on but the compressor does not. he called the guy and he thought it might be a seal that wasn't removed but wouldn't come back to correct the problem. Do you know what seal he's talking about what else the problem might be!

This is our first summer to use our Goodman central air conditioning unit and we are having alot of condensation on our windows and doors. We need to know if our service tech installed a unit too small for...

Your issue may be just the opposite of what you suspect. If the unit is too small, it will run continuously, but may do a better job of de-humidifying the space because the A/C unit has more time to pull humidity out of the air.

Conversely, if the unit is too large for the application, it may run for only a brief time, make the space cold, but may not provide effective dehumidification, resulting in the problem you describe.

Condensation occurs when hot humid air condenses out on a cooler surface, which in this case may be your windows and doors.

Keep your eye on this issue as excessive condensation or moisture build up can result in mildew or mold.

The freeon in my air conditioner has leaked out. i need to know if my air conditioner is under warrenty

your going to need the unit serial number and you will need to contact either a local Goodman distributor/dealer, or you will need to contact the installing contractor.

Depending on the age, most Goodman units come with up to a 10year warranty on the coils from defect. But that all depends on the model and age of the unit. Older units were only subject to a 5 year warranty on coils.

Regardless, the warranty after the first year will only cover the cost of the coil itself. You as the homeowner will still be responsible for the removal of the old refrigerant, labor to remove and install new coil, new filter drier, a proper pressure test, evacuation, and recharge of the unit. Its still a pretty penny but hey, at least the coil would be covered.

You will need to get up with a local contractor. Check around. Some contractors will not due warranty work either because of permission reasons, liability reasons, or other reasons that cannot be explained by anyone but that contractor.

My son has condensate building up in his flue and running down into the furnace. It is a 2 stage furnace. The contractor who installed it blames it on the chimney. Is that likely?

It is for sure a venting issue, depending on where you are located, it sounds like the local building code inspector was not involved for an inspecton of the furnace replacement. When the flue condensates like that, it is usually because the flue is the wrong size, usually to big,or it is dumped directly into a masonary chimney, and the chimney was not lined to the top.
I hope this answers your questions, please rate me and let me know if I can help further.
Sicerely,

I have a goodman gmpn 100-4 REVB furnace that will not stay lit

If the igniter lights the burners the ignitor..... is not bad. Its like a light bulb.... it works or ot doesn't.
You are describing a dirty flame sensor. Dishonest contractors will sell you a new ignitor but clean the flame sensor when the are installing the ignitor. It is located at the opposite end of the burners than the ignitor. It has one wire going to it. Remove it and clean the rod with a piece of fine grit sandpaper. this should be done every year before heating season.
Good luck

Who should I contact--Raleigh, NC

huummm... i'd pull out the invoices to equipment there's always a 5 year warranty on compressor. sometimes contractors says it's out of warranty to sell you a new unit, (they usually hate repairing.) If your invoice says it's less than 5 years old well technically your under warranty. If contractor doesn't want to honor warranty you should contact any local consumer affairs office and file a claim, sometimes if the equipment is less than 5 and more than 2 you might have to pay a small fee to get the replacement compressor. And you might have to pay some fees, at least installation of it. and the only time it needs refrigerant if's there's a leak. I'd on on that line for now hope to be of assistance today.
