2003 yz 125 keeps breaking the c shaped locating clip which is on the kickstart assembly. Not the return spring. Replaced assembly with a completly diff. one kickstarter engaged, bike started. Only rode it for about 15 minutes, then stopped and noticed a chattering sound coming.from kickstart/idler gear area. Now the kick startet is not engaging again, and not returning. Same symptoms as before the replacement. Noticed when I had it appart, that the idler gear wobbles on it's shaft. Wondering if anyone has had issues with the idler gear making contact with kickstarter gear after bike is started, causing it to kickback and break the clip. Any Help appreciated.

SOURCE: yz 250 wont kickstart

Hi!
You obviously look after your machine and very sensible when laying up, however as you are probably aware 2 strokes rely heavily on compression, A. to produce excellent combustion and B. to draw fuel into the chamber. So when you try kick starting you can't get enough revolutions to draw the correct amount of fuel into the cylinder, where as you push start you constantly turn over the engine increasing compression slightly and bingo it fires.
Can you remember how when kick starting it before this problem the feel on resistance when kicking over? has it now become a lot easier? if so you possibly have worn or broken compression piston rings.
A compression test will reveal this, I hope this sorts your query?

It has been years since I have had a bike with a kick start, but I don't ever remember any play. Are you sure its not just easy to move untill you get to the compression stroke?

Yes, there is a proper way to start the engine. Four controls are on your bike to assist in starting.

  • The choke, used when the engine is cold. Pull the knob for choke.
  • The " Hot Start " Lever, used when the engine is hot. Pull the lever to lean the fuel mix when the engine has been running.
  • The de-compression lever, always used.
  • The throttle, used to prime the cylinder.
Don't kick, instead, push the kick lever downward. You will feel the back pressure as the piston is going upward on the compression stroke to the point the pressure is great enough that the kick lever "locks up". You are very close to TDC. NOW, pull in the de-compression lever. Push the kick lever a little bit more to get the piston past TDC. Now release the de-compression lever. Give the throttle a 1/4 turn then let it snap closed. A diaphragm in the carb gives a shot of gas when this is done. DO NOT do this multiple times because you will flood the engine. Leave the throttle closed when kicking. Now give a strong kick through the full sweep of the kick start lever. Quickly get your foot off the kick lever at the end of the kick to avoid any chance of "kickback" from the kick lever. This happens in the case of a misfire, aka > backfire. It can be very painful, and can even break a leg. I am serious about that. Repeat the process (but without the throttle priming), until the bike starts. A good battery, a clean spark plug, a clean carb and clean air filter will also aid in starting.

Kickstarter is stuck 2003 Suzuki DR-Z 125 L

Rock the bike gently forward and back while shifting into fifth gear. Now push the bike forward while sitting on it and see if the rear tire turning will turn the motor. If not, your motor is stuck. If it turns, you have a kickstarter issue.
Many people never learned to depress the kickstarter down until you feel it engage before kicking it through. Kicking from the top slams the gear teeth together and causes damage. You may need to pull of the engine cover to determine if there’s damage.

Replacing Kawasaki kx 80 kick start return spring

Hi, easy job, if your bike is waer cooled, you dont say how old it is the old bikes were air cooled, undo all the water pipes attached to the r/h case all the water will escape, you can leave the oil inside the gearbox, if you lay the bike on its left hand side, lift the engine and block it up to make sure gear lever is not resting on the ground, as this will disengage when you remove the clutch cover on the r/hand side, undo all the fixing screws from the cover remove kickstart lever, tap the cover gently to loosen the cover and remove when loose, if the case will not come off check further for screws, sometimes hide inside water pumps etc, once you are ready to remove the cover, keep the kickstart shaft pushed inermost so that it stays located within the engine, once ready fully observe the location of spring mountins within the engine and replace the spring

Yz 125 2001 model. i went down to the garage and kickstarted the bike she fired up no problem then the engine cut out after a minute now the kickstart is real heavy too push down and will not start, any...

Sounds like the piston seized.
Pull the spark plug and hand crank the engine if the piston moves up and down with little effort your ok but if you have a lot of resistance top end rebuild needed.

My 125dt dosent sart or kick sart, the gear inside have a bushing in shafting?or it was broken..

Common cause of kickstarter not engaging(I am guesing that this is your problem) is a broken spring on the kickstart mechanism,or that the kickstart idler gear cerclip has fallen off(this allows the idler gear to move forward on the shaft & thus won't allow the kickstart gear to transfer drive to the clutch hub).Remove clutch cover, put kickstart lever back on shaft spline, activate kickstart lever by hand(easier with sparkplug removed+in neautral)as kickstart lever moves down 90 degrees the gear on the kickstarter mechanism should move out to engage with gear next to it(kickstart idler gear). If the gear on the kickstarter mechanism dosn't move outward it has a broken spring on the kickstart mechanism.replace spring and all should work.(if the spring is broken you need to try find the broken piece with a magnetic pick-up tool as the broken part can cause further damage if not removed)To do this job I highly recommend you first purchase a workshop manual which will guide you through these processes. After all a manual is the most valuable tool in your tool kit.

2006 yz 125 breaking push rod in clutch

That is a bit strange. Did the previous owner install stronger springs than the stock ones? Compare the effort to pull your clutch handle to what it takes on a new 125. Be sure you have clean 10w40 motor oil in the gearbox. No synthetics or special additives. Replace the rod and the lever assembly. The rod, lever and oil should eliminate the problem assuming the springs are stock.
