Question about PC Desktops

1 Answer

I cannot make the connection between the wireless-G and my laptop. I have a Windows Vista. I have followed the instructions very carefully. I am not sure that I can get the blue ethernet cable all the way in. It is far enough that it clicked, and I cannot pull it out without pinching the release, but it doesn't go in as far as the one on my laptop does. The power light is on, and the internet light is on, but the other 2 lights blink.

Why did you describe this problem three times? it is SUPPOSED to return to that screen so you can post a new problem. next time check to see what problems you have posted before you post the same one again.

you did not specify which router you have but open your network connections folder. If there's a connection there, it's active and that's not the problem. If it clicked on both ends, it was supposed to. laptop plugs are recessed in farther to prevent you from breaking the plug off the circuit board if you drop the laptop and it lands on the plug.

HI running vista, cann't figure out how to set the ip address to see if this will boost a wireless signal?

To boost the wireless signal you will need a longer antenna to connect to your wireless card (if it's a desktop)or buy a USB wireless stick with antennas for laptop.
To view the ip address in vista do the following :

Wireless Connection

You might have an anti-virus or firewall program installed on this laptop that is blocking your access. Norton Internet Security and TrendMicro PC-cillin are notorious for creating connectivity problems if they are not properly configured.

My HP wireless doesn't work? I don't have wireless connection on my compaq laptop anymore.

check your wireless adapter is on... the switch is on the front of your laptop and you should show a blue light when it's on, also go into device manager and see network adapters.. you should have 2 (the wire one built-in and your wireless network adapter.. if you only have one network adapter, check the front and see if the light indicating the status of your wireless network adapter is amber.. (if it's showing amber and you're sure it's in the on position you may have a motherboard problem and you may need to send the system back (I just had one of those with a compaq computer and since the item was within warranty the fixed in a week)

if your wireless adapter light is blue and you see your wireless adapter in device manager follow this instructions and you should be ok,

I am trying to connect to new acer laptop to my wireless network, but my acer empowering technology toolbar, located above my keyboard, does not seem to be working to allow me to connect to my wireless...

Hey

for this you gotta now the following:

1. ssid : this is the name of your access point (router)
2. key/passphrase: this is the network security key you configure your router with (if your router has a default configuration (the one that came with the device right out of the box which is not recommended) your key may be a blank key ... you simply don't have one set up.
3. the encryptation method: wep, wpa, wpa2. this goes again to how you have your router configured and if your don't have anything configured with your router in regards to encriptions (not recommeded) you may simply not have any encryptation that you need to select here.

important:
make sure your wireless adapter is working and is on:
your laptop may have a switch on the front to turn your wireless adapter on (i don't know what model of laptop you have so you may want to check the user manual that came with laptop to find the switch) or you may have to turn it within windows. (also check the user manual of your laptop)

now that you have the info needed and your adapter is on there are 2 ways to do this:

1. using your beloved acer empowering technology:
I found this that may guide you through the process of setting up your wireless connection
ftp://ftp.support.acer-euro.com/notebook/empowering_technology/acer_enet_management.pdf

look under the title: SETUP A NEW PROFILE and follow the instructions..

now if acer empowering does not work... you can try to setup your wireless connection with windows,

2. Using windows vista to setup your wireless connections:
I'm assuming you're using vista so here's a set of instructions with pictures you may want to take a loot at and follow

http://www.home-network-help.com/vista-to-connect-wireless-network.html

let me know how it went!
if problems.. post what you see and we'll try to give you hand. (please give as many details as possible)

Wireless adapter keeps conflicting with other wireless networks in my area, it will connect to my network then disconnects and tries connecting to another.

If you have a wireless hub it allows you to use both computers online at the same time frirstly. Also if you have a cordless phone it can also interfer and disconnect you.

Sounds like the drivers are conflicting with windows, need to start again at the beginning. Now you will need to reinstall you wireless sky connection, you will need to reload the cd. If you are using windows vista you will need to run the setup file as an administrator. With Vista you need to allow everything through the Administrator in order to load successfully all drivers.
Open your My Computer or Computer and right click on your CD ROM and click on Explore. Then find a setup file and right click on it and click on run as Administrator. When it runs it will ask you to except and allow your installation. Follow on screen instructions and restart computer. Try connecting and see if problem still exists. Please post me if still no success!

Try resetting your IP address:
The laptop may be trying to use the IP address from the old router.

1) Click Start (assuming Windows 2000, XP, or Vista)
2) Click Run
3) Type in CMD
This will take you to a black command box
4) Type in: ipconfig/release
The chart should show your IP address as 0.0.0.0
Once this has happened, proceed to step 5
5) Type in: ipconfig/renew
You should now see a new IP address listed.

Also note that you need to set up your network key (assuming that you are using one) on both the router and laptop.
Make sure that your router is set up to perform as DHCP server.

Wireless connection lost

948c84d.gif Make sure #4 is switched to the ON position.

Then, double click on the wireless indicator located on your taskbar, near the clock in the lower right hand corner of your screen. That will tell you if it "sees" any wireless connections available to it.

You can download the manual for this laptop here: http://csd.acer.com.tw/acer/URMUL1.NSF/1af87a750eeeb70f0825628f006e0bfc/a9b67d2003ba6822482571f8000f317e/$FILE/AS5680_5630_3690-ENG-OLM_0727.pdf

What are the step for setting up you computers to a network using a Linksys router. I have a 2 PC's and a laptop that I would linke to net work together. My first computer is connect to the Wireless-B...

Hi Ed, if your using windows you can open network connections & run network setup wizard. Follow the instruction for a home network for the wireless PC's & notebooks. Once the network is setup for all PC's than you can install the printer cd software in the PC's that you want to access the printer. Each PC & notebook will have access to the printer through the network.
The PC that that is connected to the printer needs to be shared.
Open printers and Faxes. Right click once on the printer & left click sharing. Agai follow the instructions.
Lastly,I strongly suggest you setup security for your wireless. If you do not anyone close can tap into your network connection. Follow linksys instruction to setup security. If you run into a problem you can call linksys for free advise from a pro. Their number is listed in the manual.

Good Luck! Take your time.
