Question about HP Printers & Copiers

1 Answer

A line or partial line of assorted dingbat-like items is being printed at bottom of page of items selected to print. Occurs both with materials I am generating on my MacBook (OS 10.4.11) as well as on documents emailed to me for printing. I have HP Deskjet 5650 that I purchased in 2003.

I was in chat with someone who suggested I unplug everything and & restart. Have done so, tried printing another page, and I still have partial line of assorted dingbats at bottom. Any other ideas?

  • topcub2 Aug 12, 2008

odd line or two of random characters appears whether I am printing the main email itself or an attachment....even if I don't save the attachment, just print it.

I don't know how to disable options key on macbook.

the extra dingbats don't replace anything. original material is all there and in proper fonts. it's just extra stuff in a row, sometimes, two, sometimes three of them (partial rows).  Will see if I can get a new USB tomorrow to try connecting with printer. thanks so much

are the documents that you are printing are they attachments? or are they the actual email itself?

also if you are saving from a attachment it could be in the wrong format.

try saving it again if so and check to see the options for the save as file type. enter the most common one you use.

been looking around and make sure your option key is not stuck at all or disable the options key on your macbook to see if that helps as well.

also coming up with font errors or missing fonts that are needed and substituting the fonts that are missing with dingbats.

this could be a footer of the document "Page one" ect ect and the documents title getting messed up.

Go to File -> Print (or click ) then choose your browser from the drop-down list (Safari or Opera). This step is the same as Firefox, use the images above if you want a visual reference.

Safari In the next window , uncheck "Print webpage information in headers and footers".
Opera If you're using Opera, the phrase you're looking for is "Print Headers and Footers", uncheck that

My mp mP830 prints some lines (or partial lines) Consistantly misses the same rows each page

Sounds like the ink is running out at the same time each printing. Check the ink supply. The printer may not be letting you know the correct amount remaining. It could also be the ink jets themselves getting clogged and not distributing the ink enough to compensate for the amount of printing ink, on the page, in time to print all of it in succession. Do a test of no printing except where it seems to be missing and just print that area (print: selection).

Lines on print. There's are three lines on picture print only. Can't see the line on document. It's about 1/4 inch wide and going throught top to bottom.

Have ou gone into your menus. Into troubleshooting, then image quality.
You will want to run both the eliminate light stripes and eliminate smears procedures. that will purge the print head, blow air through the jets and hopefully resolve the problem. I do believe the 8550 has a Jet Substitutin procedure where you can do a workaround and make other jets make up for the light areas.
here are some directions, Will forward more

  1. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button on the Control Panel to select [Troubleshooting] on the Display Screen, and then press the [OK] button.
  2. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select [Print Quality Problems], and then press the [OK] button.
  3. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select [Troubleshooting Print Quality Page], and then press the [OK] button.
  4. Evaluate the 'Light Stripes Test' page for missing printhead jets, such as missing Cyan, Magenta, Yellow or Black color bars. The 'Light Stripes Test' page is the last page of the Troubleshooting Print Quality Page that printed.

WARNING: To avoid injury, do not touch the sharp metal strip attached to the clear rubber wiper blade in the Maintenance Kit.

  5. Use a clean lint-free cloth or a new paper coffee filter to gently clean the maintenance unit's clear rubber wiper blade, use only a wiping motion across the entire length of the wiper blade, and then empty the waste tray. A dirty maintenance kit wiper blade can cause white lines and weak or missing printhead jets.

  6. 8500-wiper-blade-clean.jpg

  7. Repeat step 3 to reprint the Troubleshooting Print Quality Pages. If there are no missing or partially missing color bars then the print quality problem has been resolved. If there are missing or partially missing color bars then the printhead cleaning procedure will need to be performed. Continue with the next section.
To clean the printhead using the basic eliminate light stripes procedure:
  1. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button on the Control Panel to select [Troubleshooting] on the Display Screen, and then press the [OK] button.
  2. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select [Print Quality Problems], and then press the [OK] button.
  3. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select [Eliminate Light Stripes], and then press the [OK] button.
  4. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select [Basic], and then press the [OK] button. The printer will perform a head cleaning, which will take about five minutes. The printer will then print a cleaning page and a light stripes test page.
  5. Repeat steps 1 - 4 one more time. If there are no weak or missing jets then the print quality problem has been resolved. If there are still weak or missing jets after two basic light stripe cleanings, continue with step 6.

NOTE: Do not try the Advanced Eliminate Light Stripes Cleaning mode without performing two basic cleanings first.

To clean the printhead using the advanced eliminate light stripes procedure:

  6. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select [Advanced], and then press the [OK] button.
  7. Select the missing jet color and number. If necessary, check the light stripes test page to determine the color and jet number of the missing jet.

NOTE: Only perform the advanced light stripe cleaning once. If weak or missing jets still persist, continue with step 8.

  8. Print the Troubleshooting Print Quality Page. Evaluate the Light Stripes Test page for missing printhead jets, such as missing Cyan, Magenta, Yellow or Black color bars. If necessary, perform the basic eliminate light stripes procedure one more time. If the Advanced Eliminate Light Stripes procedure does not resolve the weak or missing jets, perform the Enable Jet Substitution Mode. See the Related Items below.

I try to print a card or bank statements and nothing is printing just put in new ink, it only prints the 1st page of a quarter fold card, it should all be on one page and it prints only partial card

IF the Kodak AiO printer is printing partial ther are two main device of the printer that have issue on the scanner [where you put the document for copying] or the printhead of the printer.
Step that you can do
1. Try to print a test page in this way you can check if the printer prints whole page. How to print test page press copy button and photo button on the printer for atleast 10 sec. or until the printer starts printing. Reminder Test page doesn't need a document on the scanner glass. It will print an advertising doc for the printer. Now if the test page is half/partial it is the printhead that has an issue. If it print the whole page it is the scanner that has issue contact kodak for printer repair
2.Clean the printhead twice and reseat the printhead it
How: press menu button then select clean printhead then select basic/deep clean. To reseat printhead open the printer access door; remove the ink cartridges; remove the printhead; close the printer access door then open the printer access door insert the printhead then the ink cartridges.
3. Try to print again [For futher support call Kodak support line at 1 800 421 6699]

Faint horizontal dark line about 2 1/8 inches down from the top

Hi,

You can easily fix this yourself, one of the quickest ways to fix it is to print 10 doublesided blank pages and it will clean the inside of the machine for you and the line will vanish.

For further print quality problems on this machine follow these instructions to troubleshoot.

When troubleshooting image quality problems, it is important to understand the situations in which the problem occurs.

Print a copy of the color test pages to determine whether the problem is in one color or more than one color.
  1. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button on the Control Panel to select [Troubleshooting] on the Display Screen, and then press the [OK] button.
  2. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select [Print Quality Problems], and then press the [OK] button.
  3. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select [Color Test Pages], and then press the [OK] button to print the test pages. If the problem occurs with one color on the test pages, perform the solutions for this problem. If the problem occurs in more than one color on the test pages, restart your search and select a case for the image quality problem occurring through all colors.
