First off, if possible you want to pull the document in the normal direction of travel. Lift the main scanner lid and see if any of the document is visible from that side. If it is, gently tug on it to see if it will move. If not, close the lid, lift the cover on the ADF so that you can see the rollers. Lift up on the green handle until the ADF roller is facing up. On the side of the Roller mechanism facing the front you will see a spring. Remove the spring carefully, making a hook out of a paper clip is the easiest way to do this. Once the spring is released, lift the side that the spring was attached to upwards and pull towards you at the same time, the assembly will pull out of the machine. Next on the left hand side you will see a screw on the left side that holds the paper guide in place, remove this screw and then pull out the paper guide. There may be tape holding it in place as well. Once that is out of the way you should be able to work the paper out of the machine and also see if anything is jammed in the drive mechanism. Reassemble in reverse order once you have removed all traces of paper. You may also want to clean the pickup roller (the ones attached to the shaft) with a water dampened cloth before reassembly, this will ensure that the paper feeds properly.

Black cq when using document feeder

clean the slit glass its the small maybe two inch wide glass to the left of the main glass clean it good use windex or alcohol that will get rid of you problem have a great day
tip

Epson All-In-One only copies on one side, prints fine from computer.

You try to copy a document and it only has print on one half of the page (left side or right side). Then you try to print from the computer and the unit prints fine.<br /> <br /> The two processes use different parts of the all-in-one in when copying or printing. <br /> <br /> When you print from the computer all the information comes from the computer and only the printer section of the all-in-one is used and it sounds like there is nothing wrong with the printer section. <br /> <br /> When you copy something you are using the printer section, plus the scanner function and possibly the document feeder section. If you are like most of us you put the document in the document feeder and press copy. <br /> <br /> If you are only gettting copy on the left side more than likely one of two things are happening. Some units use a double lamp assembly, one on the left and a similar lamp on the right. If your unit has this setup one lamp could be defective or not getting power. <br /> <br /> Most units have just one lamp the entire way across the page. It is located under the access panel for the document feeder. If this is your unit you could not get the problem you have with a bad lamp. You would have nothing on the page. <br /> <br /> The second possibility would be a piece of paper or perhaps a label stuck on the document feeder, under the access panel, blocking the light path. This is easy to check. Open the paper jam access panel and look for any paper or labels or foreign material in the feeder and clean it all out. <br /> <br /> If you do not use the document feeder but instead place the document to be copied on the glass under the cover you are using a different part of the unit than what I talked about previously. Now you are using the lamp from the scanner bed. <br /> <br /> I do not believe that I have ever seen a scanner lamp which did not go the entire way across the page. This would mean that you could not have the problem described. Again you would not have anything on the page.<br /> <br /> If you check everything I have just mentioned and do not find any problems, such as something blocking the light path or a bad lamp, then the only cause could be a bad memory board on the scanner board. While this could be changed if you have electronic experience, it would be very difficult and beyond the scope of this tip to attempt to explain the process. <br /> <br /> Given the low cost of most units now it may be more cost effective to purchase a new unit.<br /> <br /> Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating.<br /> <br /> hardrocko

Our copystar is creating a dark line on the right side of the paper

There are a number of things that can cause this problem, below are a few things you can try.

1. Remove the process unit out as if you were going to remove a jam. There is a green piece of plastic used to clean the main charge unit. Slide it to the left then back to the right. Make sure it is seated all the way to the right in it's home position or it can cause black lines.

2. If you have a document feeder on the copier is the line only when using the document feeder?
- Determine if it is by making a copy from the glass.
- If it is only when making a copy from the document feeder then clean the small **** glass just to the left of the large glass. This glass is used only when making a copy from the document feeder.

3. If you wipe your hand across the copy and the toner wipes off then fixing unit should be replaced.

I hope this is helpful,

When i make copies a line appears on the right side of the copy. This problem does not occur when i scan to copy only when the document runs through the feeder

Clean the document feeder scanner glass. This is the much smaller strip of glass that is to the right of the large main glass. This strip of glass is used ONLY when using the feeder. So if you are getting a dark line when using the automatic feeder but not when laying a document on the glass then just clean the strip glass. 100% sure this is your problem. You may need to clean it several times as I have seen stuff get stuck to this glass.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

I have a message coming up that I don't know what it means.

ADF = Auto Document Feeder (Usually on top)

RADF = Rear Auto Document Feeder, (On the back)

Something is stuck in one of these, a piece of paper, foam, paperclip, twist tie . . . it could be anything. Follow the squealing sound and check the paper feeder rollers.

Find what is in the way and remove it.

Cheers.

Vertical black line in scan document not in copies through document feeder

Lift the lid and to the left of the main glass is a smaller glass; that is what scans during the feeding process. Make sure that it is completely clean; even a speck of dust can cause a line to appear. I took a lens wipe and cleaned mine and my line was gone.

Won't copy document through feeder.

When you say it won't copy, do you mean that the paper won't move in the feeder or that no copies come out? Do you get any error messages? Try using alcohol on a swab or lint free cloth and clean the feed rollers in the feeder. They sometimes get paper dust on them and they can't pick up the paper. Also make sure that any paper sensors that detect when paper is in the feeder are intact. Occasionally they get stuck or broken. Hope this works.

Document jam

There is most likely a very small piece of paper in the document feeder.
What you can do is take a minella folder or some card stock, open the document feeder cover and shove the folder or card stock through the feeder to dislodge whatever is stuck in there.
The document sensor itself may be knocked out of position.
It can't be the copy paper path since you can print.
