It it's a software CD, look for run.exe or autorun.bat if run.exe exists, then open it, otherwise, find autorun.bat, and right-click, select edit. The name of the program mentioned here is the one you want to open.
I hope this helps!

Need the manual for hp pavilion notebook dv7-4008ca & downloaded

HP Support > Pavilion dv7-4008ca Notebook PC > Main Support page,

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=4230711

Click on Manuals in the list.

Click on -
HP Pavilion dv7 Entertainment PC - Maintenance and Service Guide
,for a Service Manual.

Click on -
Notebook PC User Guide - Windows 7
,for a User Manual

These are PDF files.
The computer you are using now has Adobe Reader on it, which uses PDF files.
After you click on the manual file name you want, it may take up to 30 seconds before the first page comes up.
(Just wanted you to know while you are staring at a blank screen.
The file is downloading to your computer)

The download is a Temporary download. Once you close the PDF file, you have to go back, and download it again, to see it.

At the top right of the top header is a Floppy Disk icon.
It is the third icon from the left. If you hover your mouse cursor over it, Save a copy, will be briefly revealed.

Click on the Floppy Disk icon.
In the Save File box look to see where the file will download to.
Desktop: Goes to your desktop screen.
Documents: Goes to your Documents folder
Downloads: Goes to your Downloads folder.

You can click on the blue Down Arrow to the right, and in the list click on where you wish the file to download to.
I put them in my Documents folder.
(Actually I am running WinXP right now, so they go to my My Documents folder. Win Vista, and Win 7 it's -> Documents)

In the File name: box below, write down the file name.
Or,
Click in this box, and type what you want.
(Pavilion dv7 User Manual, or Pavilion dv7 Service Manual?)

Now go below, and click on Save File. (OK?)

From there put a new CD-R disk in the optical drive (CD/DVD drive), and then Right-click on the file name. Click on Copy.

The reason I do not just directly copy to disk, from the HP PDF file, is if there is a problem I want to have the file handy. I can start over.

(After checking that the disk has a good copy on it, you can then delete the file from the computer you downloaded it on, and save harddrive space on that computer)

For additional questions please post in a Comment.

Regards,
joecoolvette

My laptop says that one of my disks need to be checked for consistency and then stops on 2 of 3 checks with 62% checked. then reads an unexpected error has occured on one of the disks and freezes. I also...

This is not an easy issue to solve using this method (posting text or email) but I will give it a try!

There are many things that can cause the problem you described. Your memory cards could be loose inside the pc. You can try removing & reseating them to see if this solves the problem. Your partician could be damaged. Your hard drive may need replacement. If your pc came with recovery software, you might try turning on the pc & putting the system recovery disk inside the drive & then restart the pc and try booting from that drive to start the recovery process. If your pc came with recovery software installed on a second drive located in your computer, then you need to follow the instructions on how to access system recovery which are listed in your manual and also flash briefly on the screen when the pc is loading windows (you should see something like press F2 to enter recovery briefly on the left side of the pc when it is first starting up. It only displays this command briefly. Try restarting a few times if you do not see it) . Once in recovery, follow the prompts to start the process to see if the pc can recover and start windows normally.

If you choose cancel disk check, and the screen your describing in your post is a blinking cursor where you can enter commands - try typing "help" and press enter to see if it will give you a list of choices to execute. If it is a command prompt and gives you this list, try scrolling with your arrow keys to find disk check or check disk. Windows has options to repair bad areas of particians, but I am unsure if they would go any farther then the test that is currently running and unable to get passed 62%.

If you have an operating system disk (Windows Xp, Win 7, Win Vista - full versions - not upgrade software) that matches what you are running on your computer you can try restoring or replacing the opearting system to see if that solves your problem. Try putting the disk inside the pc and restart to get it to boot from the disk drive. Then replace your operating system with a new version (warning - this will erase all files that were on the pc) to see if that solves the issue. you can also try installing recovery and/or repair files from the operating system disk. Just put the disk in and restart the pc and read the options that come up - then follow the prompts to repair the system.

If you have questions please use the reply or comment link next to your question on Fixya and I will try and continue troubleshooting until this issue is resolved.

When I put my Sims Double Deluxe CD 1 in to install it, the disk will start to run but then it will stop and nothing will happen. The start screen won't even come up. The Sims game I have has stopped...

Open Windows Explorer or My Computer, right click the CD/DVD drive with the Sims disc in it. For example "D:". Right click on the drive and select "Explore" or "Open". In the list of files you should have a "SETUP.EXE". Double left-click that file.

Blue screen on start-up saying 'stop: c000007b bad image' etc

Errr...sounds like fun.

OK well I would stop trying to get Windows back in working condition until after you backup your files.

The easiest way is to remove the hard drive from the system and place it into a usb enclosure.

Backup the files and then reinstall windows.

If you try the band-aid method you'll just end up wasting your time.

Hope this helps.

Husqvarna Designer will not read files

Use 3D Disk Manager to write to the floppy disk that goes into your Designer 1. It will automatically convert the files to .shv for you. Disk Manager is part of the Accessories menu (top right-hand of your menu bar when you have program open). Firstly, read the disk (downwards pointing blue arrow on menu bar), then use either the file icon or the camera icon to put the designs you want on the Disk Manager screen. Then use the Write Disk icon (upwards pointing blue arrow on the menu bar). Write back if you need more information - this can get quite long-winded!

My floppy drive tells me to insert a disk when I try to use it

Sounds like you have a bad drive or the disk is corrupted. Did you try a different floppy disk to see if the drive is functioning?

Recording stops within 10 minutes

Hi G-DyBiec

If the video capture automatically stops capturing at approximately 18 minutes (17 minutes and 55 seconds), then most likely the drive that is being capture to, is formated using Microsoft's FAT32 file system. Microsoft's FAT32 file system has a maxium file size of 4 GigaBytes (4 GB), which equates to a DV video clip of nearly 18 minutes. (18 minutes = 1080 seconds, @ a data rate of 3.6 MB/sec is approximately 4GB). So for hard drives that are formatted using FAT32, this behavior is normal. This is not a limitation of Studio..

To see what file system your hard drive uses do the following:

1. Right click on the Start button and choose Explore
2. Under My Computer, locate and highlight the drive you are capturing to
3. Right click and select Properites
4. On the General tab, towards the top, it will say "File System". It will be listed as either FAT32 or NTFS.

There are a few solutions if your drives are formatted using FAT32:
  1. Convert your FAT32 hard drive to NTFS *
  2. If you can copy any important data from this drive to other drives, it may be faster to re-format the FAT32 drive using the NTFS file system. **
  3. You can do multiple 18 minute captures and string them together in the Edit mode of Studio.
    • Since the first 18 minutes is already captured, rewind the camcorder or VCR to 5 - 10 seconds before the initial capture stopped (which can be edited out later in Studio).
    • Start a new capture to a new file name.
    • Repeat this process until all the desired video is captured from the tape.
    • After all the files have been captured, go to Edit and assemble the captured files from the Album to the timeline in the order you desire.
This is a manual method to workaround Microsoft's FAT32 file system and if this is too time intensive for your needs, then steps 1 and 2 above may be more suitable and should be considered.
* Note: If you need assistance with step 1 above, go to the Microsoft web site at http://www.microsoft.com/ and search on "convert FAT32 to NTFS".
** Note: If you need assistance with step 2 above, go to the Microsoft web site at http://www.microsoft.com/ and search on "how to format a drive in XP".

NOTE: Microsoft's NTFS file system is only supported on Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Vista. NTFS support a file size of 4 TB (terra bytes), which is larger than any current consumer hard drive capacity, so if NTFS is used, the capture file size will only be limited by the size of the hard drive.
