Question about Computers & Internet

When the virused email opened it not only put a virused spyware checker on it that hijacked the pc with hundreds of buy this product screens that totally disabled the keyboard it also stuck a fake screensaver i.e. bluescreen file : sysinternals - blphcv810ev8g.scr . it also took away my screensaver and background controls in desktop (deleted them). i have downloaded copies and can get screensaver to work in 2nd user screens but cant get screensavers to work in mine except as preview, but control tabs are working. i have removed all the rogue file and reg keys and run system restore, but the screensavers just wont go except on preview. all the blue screen error codes were different each time it showed. any suggestions please

I have not solved this problem but all the actions taken did get the pc working better. It appears at this stage there is no solution at the present.

If you're sure you removed the virus, then I would do a repair install with Windows. http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm#RI

Xp s/3 windows hard drive has computer virus -- something S.M.A.R.T WANTED ME TO BUY THEIR PRODUCT SO THEY COULD FIX WHAT THEY CAUSED

hey, yeah just spyware its annoying i remove them daily,
i will run through some basics to try and get rid of the screen so u can get a virus checker on to remove the rest.
ps even if u buy it you will still get problems so please dont lol.
first thing is go into safe mode, you wont be able to get it off in normal mode as its still running.
once in safe mode, goto start msconfig, click startup, look for the virus in the list, write down the location of where its stored,
you then go into my computer, you will have to set it so u can see hidden files on the pc,
once u find the file delete it and it will stop it from appearing on next start up. then try installing www.superantispyware.com .
if its too complex for you try downloading the program and virus checker to pen drive, load safe mode and install it in safe mode and do a scan in safemode, ;) hope this helps

Can not stay on line

Sounds like your computer may have been hijacked. Run a spyware remover on your computer and rid of all spyware. Also run a virus protection on your computer. I highly recommend this Spyware remover for fast results. This one is $30.00 but well worth it and will save you the cost of going to a technician which can run $80.00 or more!

Dell computer freezes up when i try to click on contest links

first I would download a free anti spyware tool, like spybot, malware bytes also windows defender works pretty well. It sounds like a browser hijack possibly, I would scan for spyware before anything else.

Is everyone using the same user account to check their email or does your dusband and daughter have their own user account as well as yourself?

If everyone is seperate, then you may have inadvertantly gotten a piece of spyware that is messing with your settings. The quick solution would be to create a new user account for yourself and copy your documents over. The not so quick fix would be running a program like HijackThis to see if there are any web browser redirects or "hijacks" for yahoo. Also running some antispyware utilities such as Spybot Search & Destroy. I recomend Spybot because it identifies some hijacks, offers protection (not realtime scanning, just prevantative), works great, and is legally free. You could also use another web browser such as Mozilla Firefox which helps prevent hijacking and spyware infections. This is also legally free.

Hope this helps!

If everyone is under the same account then I don't think the problem would make sense one person can access Yahoo mail but not another person.

Pop ups

It sounds like perhaps you have been hijacked or have a virus or some sort of spyware/adware. Using a wireless router shouldn't mean that you'll be bombarded with popups, but be sure you have your firewall running and security enabled on the router, just to be safe.

That said, try running a virus scan with whatever anti-virus you have installed. If you don't have anything, use TrendMicro's HouseCall (http://housecall.trendmicro.com/). That I believe also will, or will give the option to, check for adware/spyware. If it doesn't, or if it doesn't find anything, try downloading a program like Spybot Search & Destroy (a personal favorite). You can download it here. Run a scan with Spybot and delete anything that it finds. Make sure you've set up Backups in the Spybot options first, and take a system screen shot via System Restore before you do anything.

If you need additional help, please let me know. Hopefully this helps though!

Good luck!
