Question about Casablanca Fan 3245T Ceiling

1 Answer

Flickering/buzzing CFLs when turning on W-32 and Casablanca fan. I had compact fluorescent lights in my Casablanca fan with an older W-11/12 swtich and the lights turned on cleanly. Then I upgraded to the modern-looking W-32 and when turning the CFLs on I briefly got a distracting flickering/buzzing. I've replaced them with old incandescents and all is OK again. Any solutions (other than hoarding incandescents or reverting to hte W11/12)?

Is the difference that the new one is dimmable or you have installed a dimmer switch as well? If so thats the problem. CFL can't be dimmed and act weird on a transformer. Only option would be to open it and remove the dimmer pack inside the fan or swap to a normal wall switch.

The W-32 controller is not designed to work with a CFL that is not dimmable with a normal dimmer. The simplest solution is to install normal incandescent lamps, or find a CFL that is dimmable with a normal incandescent dimmer.

I have a Casablanca slumber three delta ii that I want to get a light fixture to fit. Can I use a Hunter, or are there certain ones I need to use?

You have to use the bottom plate to attach the light kit to so whatever you get ,you have to be able to screw the two screws back on the fan. I have some older Casablanca light kits that will work without the bottom cap.

Fixture not working after bulb change

"CFLs" Compact Fluorescent Bulbs (with built in ballast) must be labeled as dimmable to be used on a dimmer circuit.

Traditional fluorescent fixtures must have a dimmable ballast installed inside and can be used with standard fluorescent lamps.

Fluorescent lamps must be sized to match the ballast. CFL's are matched at the factory, but others are not. Older fluorescent lamp fixtures have a ballast inside. A type rating is to operate (2) 48 inch / 40 watt lamps. Newer fluorescent lamps are rated for 32 watts, and these will not work - or will have a greatly reduced life.

If you installed CFL's, the first thing I would do is install regular incandescent lamps and see if it works as expected. If not, something else is wrong - otherwise - make sure you've got the right lamps in the fixture.

Can i use a Leviton slide dimmer no. 6631 with a holegen fixture

Incandescent and halogen appear the same to these switches. Basically, if the fixtures has a ballast or the lamp uses gas for illumination (as opposed to filament) it will require a special dimmer made expressly for that use or no dimmer is permitted. Such lamps would be fluorescent, compact fluorescent (aka CFL), high pressure sodium, mercury vapor, etc.

There are also some DIMABLE CFLs on the market. These can be used with ordinary dimmers and require no special wiring. Simply remove the old incandescent and replace with a dimaable CFL. Be sure to read the package for any limitations. Keep in mind, the CFL package must state it is dimable, as not all are. Dimable CFLs cost more than the non-dimable types.

Even though it was not asked, never use a dimmer to control the speed of a fan. That applies whether it is a paddle fan or a table fan plugged into an outlet that is controlled by a dimmer switch. There are variable speed motor controls made for this purpose.

I hope this helps & good luck!

I installed a fan and it works good but the light

Is it a standard incandescent bulb or is it a compact fluorescent light? If it has a remote with a dimmer you shouldn't use a compact fluorescent bulb as they are not dimmable. CFLs may be damaged or damage a dimmer if they are used together.

Ceiling fan light flecker

Grinding indicates failed bearings. This is causing excess load in the motor and that is causing the flickering. This is not a user repair and would like cost around $130.00 for labor and bearing assuming you find a shop willing to do it. Most fans have pressed bearings and are very cheap.

Hampton Bay 54" Covington Ceiling Fan light problem

Solids state fan controls don't work correctly with fluorescent bulbs. If you check the tail end of you remote's instructions it will say something like "Max light watts: 300 (incandescent only). So replace your energy saver bulbs with 60 watt "regular" bulbs to solve your problem.

Fluorescent light that keeps flickering

The ballast is a device that utilises and expanding/contracting electromagnetic field to create the high voltage which is needed to run fluorescent lights.

It is normally found behind the front cover or reflector part of the fitting and looks like a small box.

Replacement should normally be done by a person qualified in this field.
