Tip & How-To about Maytag M7DH45B2A Dehumidifier

Taking the Confusion Out of Using a Dehumidier

Many consumers are confused about setting the proper levels of humidity on dehumidifier units. And then think something is mechanically wrong with the unit. When in fact, over 70% of the time it operator error. That and a lack of proper routine maintenance are the problem.

The numbers on the LED screen represent the amount of humidity you want to maintain. Not the amount you want to remove. For example: If you set the level at 70%, which is rather high, more than likely the unit may start up momentarily and then shut OFF. That's because the setting is to high. Now, if you set it at 45%, the unit will turn ON and run until either the bucket is full and/or the humidity level has reached 45%.

Here's a good rule of thumb if you use your humidifier year round.

In the Winter you want to maintain a humidity level of 50 to 60%. The moister the air, the more comfortable it will feel. Plus, the humidity helps eliminate static electricity in the air.

Conversely, in the hot, humid Summer months, you want to keep the humidity level as low as possible (35% or less). Also, if you have ceiling fans, using them 24 hours a day, helps to move the air and generate a windchill, which fools your body into thinking it's cooler than what it really is. At the same time, it's saving on energy costs by not having to run your AC as much, because the dehumidifier is removing the humidity.

Just remember, the higher the setting, the higher the humidity level will stay. The lower the setting, the more humidity will be removed and the more comfortable you'll feel in the Summer.

And don't forget Routine Maintenance. Clean the air intake filter regularly. Clean and wipe down the refrigerant coils every 60 days. And don't allow water to remain in the collection bucket to long. As mold can build up in it.

Speaking of which, the water in the bucket, when fresh, is great for watering house plants. Because, when it's fresh, it's distilled water. No chlorine or minerals.

what is the proper setting for Danby R410A?

R410A is refrigerant gas. I think you wanted to know, what humidity extraction level the controls should be set on. If it is really hot and humid in your area, set the humidity extraction level between 35 & 40%. If you have a mechanical control, turn the knob to Maximum.

Hope this helped you, Bradleyjo. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Have classic dehumidifier model#CDR4500E. Can't adjust it automaticaly to come on or shut off. Don't understand the keypad fuctions, booklet to confusing.

Your dehumidifier preset default humidity level of 70%. Which is rather high, if you're using the unit in the hot Summer months. You can override this setting and lower the humidity level in increments to as low as 35%. Which is ideal during hot, humid weather. The Air Down button lowers the humidity level.Once the level is set, the unit will cycle ON and OFF as necessary, to maintain the level of humidity.

I have looked at the Owners Manual for you unit, and it's very thorough. But, I can understand, if you're not familiar with how the units work, it could be confusing. Page 5, is very informative on how to operate the unit, as far as setting humidity levels, which is what's important. If the operation of the unit continues to be a problem for you, contact Danby Customer Support 1-800-263-2629 and they can walk you through the procedures, while on the phone with them.

Hop this helped you. Please let me know. Thanks.

Unit runs but doesn't collect water and there is a lot of water in the basement. Have had dehumidifier for two weeks and was working well before.

Keep in mind, that a dehumidifier only draws humidity from the air, if the level of humidity is higher than what the controls are set on. For instance, if you have the dehumidifier set on 65 to 70%, that's a high level of humidity to maintain in a house. If you have it set for 35 or 45%, that's a low level of humidity to maintain in a house. Which, generally is what you want to maintain in the hot, humid summer months. Also, it's not uncommon on some dehumidifiers for the fan to almost run constantly. It's designed to keep the air moving, in a effort to detect when the humidity level rises.

Also, a dirty air intake filter makes the unit strain to keep up and can't take in moisture as it should. So, if you haven't cleaned the filter no is the time to check and clean it. And while your at it, clean the cooling coils too. Since it sounds like this unit has been working hard for 2 weeks.

The easiest and best way to test a dehumidifier at home, to see if it's working properly. Is to place it in the bathroom and turn the shower ON and don't operate the bathroom's exhaust fan. Set the humidity level low (45%), turn the unit ON and close the door when you leave. Wait 15 to 25 minutes and check the water collection bucket. If there's water in it, it's working as it should.

Hope all this helps you troubleshoot and solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.

My dehumidifier is not working properly. I do not know how it works, I do not have the manual. I have a temperaturesetting and a humidity level area. Do I need to set it on the humidity level to pull water out of the air?

Yes set unit humidity dial about half way or until it comes on. You need something to measure humidity. most of dials dont have a humidity reading. Set at about 50% Rus
