I have a husqvarna model 45 the serial number is 0090026 how do I tell what year it was manufactured ?

yth18542 is the model number of the lawn tractor, the identification plate should also show a serial number, which can be used to identify the date of manufacture as well as to differentiate between differences in this model, depending on date of manufacture.

There may be a date on the rating plate where the model and serial number is. Some Manufacturers also use the serial number as a guide of its age. Have a look at the serial number. The first 3 or 4 numbers may give you an idea as to its age. Usually shown as Year / month, or year / week of manufacture. IE 210 would be 2002 October or 551 would be 2005, the 51st week of the year.

Mark, I'm not sure if you ever got your answer in all of that above but just in case you didn't....yours is in the war years 1944, or 45. Winchester kept no records of public serials those years because pretty much all of their manufacturing went to the war effort. Simply no record keeping. In 1942, #1221289, was sold. 43, 44, 45, 46, and 47 there were no records. In 1948 they began again at the number 1500000. You can't get any accurate to the day date on yours but if you divide those numbers by the five years you get approx 55,700 a year. So 1221289 + 55700 is approx 1277000. Add another 55700 and you get approximately late 1944 to early 45 for your rifle. I hope that helps.

Ask to see the sales receipt if you are in need of proof of purchase date. Even contacting Husqvarna to ask when it was registered may not be the actual purchase date. I saw a question not long ago about a saw that was purchased new that had been out of production for a couple of years. It is possible it sat on a dealer's shelf for a period.

Looking at the serial, it was manufactured in 1998, the 51st week (Dec), and was the 4th product that week.

If properly tuned with a fresh 50:1 fuel mix it will operate flawlessy regardless of what the manual says. To rich a mixture accelerates carbon build up on the piston and spark arrestor screen and may actually be harmful to your saw. The run lean condition is most often caused by running straight gasoline or an air leak not detected by the operator.
