    Could you clarify just a but more? What shooting mode is it on? (The dial on top) Can you see anything in the playback mode? Can you see any images if you plug the card into a computer?

Check the settings you are using. if the shutter speed is too fast, then not enough light will get to the sensor in order to create an image.
if there is an actual problem with the light sensor on the inside, that is something you will have to get canon to look at unfortunately

It is known problem of ccd imager failure in Canon A70 camera and ccd imager will be replaced to get live view in camera mode to take fresh pictures.

Check the SD card, they have sliders on them which lets you "lock" the card so nothing can be put on or taken off of it. Make sure that is off. Then go through the menu on the camera and try to format the card again. If the card is bad it should give you an error message when it tries otherwise you should be good :)

Defective ccd imager!! company will replace this ccd imager free of charge. Year 2002 up to 2005 released unit has a factry defect ccd imager. the company recalled these unit and replaced with a stronger version of ccd imager( they are still doing it). check it out.
