Question about Microwave Ovens

Sharp quartz chef combination microwave R-7E53 blows fuse and emits burning smell - display, light, turntable operate but does not heat. Is it worth repairing?

    I am facing the same problem. The light and display is working fine but not heating. I have a kenstar product.

    I tried calling the service station in my city but the Phone no. no longer exists.
    Can anyone suggest me something on this. Please help.

    Thank you for response. Haven't tried convection. On hitting start button it makes a "kjunk" noise and blows fuse.

    Is it blowing the fuse only when microwaving?

    When does the fuse blow?

    As soon as you hit the Start pad, or a few seconds or so later?

If it went dead almost immediately after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a shorted high-voltage capacitor.

is the burning smell just when you use the convection oven or when you use the microwave , reason I ask is that if its only coming from the convection oven then chances are you have something melted on the heat elements , this can be cleaned off with a dry brillo pad

My Sharp Quartz Chef Jet Convection Oven Grill & Microwave model R-7E53 micro is not heating. All is working fine except it does not cook/heat anything i put in it.


It sounds like the magnetron may have either failed or is not being supplied with the extremely high voltage required to run it.

YOUR SAFETY IS PARAMOUNT

This is a job for a professional but if you are safety clued up, here's instruction.
Make sure the !!!!any capacitors are discharged!!!!! before attempting any sort of repair.
Check the door interlock switches first then the high voltage diode with either an AVO model 8 or moving coil meter on high resistance range for short circuit, (DVM's won't show the fault!), the capacitor can fail and go short circuit, the feed fuse on the primary of the high voltage transformer and then finally, the magnetron is best checked by substitution.

Microwave turns on but doesn't heat. Turntable does not rotate


The magnetron (the part that heats the food) is probably done, they tend to go out if the fuse didn't blow and it usually isn't worth fixing as the cost of the magnetron is almost what it would cost to buy a new microwave.

I have a frid microwave FMV145KB2 that has stop working


if the magnetron is shot, then replace the microwave! the magnetron is what produces the 'microwaves' that do the heating. get rid of it! buy a new one! the smell is from overheating circuitry- don't want to take the chance of a fire!
these days you can replace it pretty cheaply- with a fine piece of technology made in china! but, if it lasts 3-4 years, it's pretty cost effective.
once again! if your getting a 'burning' smell from it, unplug it and dispose of it!

Sharp Microwave Lights Up, But Won't Rotate or Cook


Hi. I would suggest checking out the door switches. There are usually 3. If one of those has failed then the microwave won't operate because of safety reasons. Best to replace all three. If the display on the unit is still fully operational I'd say go for the repair.

Oven lights, turntable turns, motor runs, NO HEAT


this sounds like either a capacitor, transformer, or magnatron. Mags unually don't go bad. Either one can go bad and blow a fuse or other safety device. If one shorts, it could burn a section of the circuit board.

I would think about calling a tech and have him diagnose the problem. Tell him you can't fix it now but will in a month or two. Have him write down the things you need so when you do want it fixed, you do not have to start all over again. Then order the parts and fix yourself.

Micro waves can be dangerous and cause burns, so if you think this is not for you, go buy a new one.

there are 2 fuses inmicrowave 1 for ac input 1 for high voltage transformer that will trigger the magnetron "for heating"

remedy;
uncrew the unit
replace fuse near the transformer this fuse.. usually enclose with plastic casing..
then test..
