Question about Goodman Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

My motor for my Goodman CK36-1B condenser unit is beginning to overheat and stop in its tracks. I know I need to replace it, but the a/c place is charging 350 dollars for the part alone...that and labor is way beyond my means. I can get a "universal motor" and capacitor for it for $130, and think I might be able to install it myself, as I'm very handy with those kinds of things. However, I've never done it before...is there anything I need to know before attempting to do this on my own?

Ok...got the fan motor and a new, separate capacitor for the fan. so I have one dual capacitor running my compressor (it was good) and the new, smaller one for the fan. I installed it, and everything seems to work ok. There was an extra brown and white wire that I did not need in there, and it sparked when I turned it on (it had the metal attached to the end...I clipped that off). All seems ok, but now the new little capacitor is buzzing. Is this normal?

Yes....shut the power off.Just kidding. The old capacitor can hold a charge even after the power is off.be careful.make sure the motors are same hp and rpm.the universal may also have a rain plug that needs moved to the back face.besides that, pretty simple.

Why does the compressor on my goodman package unit turn on and off before completing a cycle?

There is several possible causes. The most probable cause is wrong charge. Many units have a low suction safety on the low pressure side of the compressor. There is often a high pressure swithch to guard against over pressure also on the high pressure side. If your unit has the condensing fan stop in mid cycle, the compressor has inherent motor contacts inside the compressor to help guard the compressor from overheating. I just recently had to replace several customers main contactor because the contactor contacts were severly burned and sometimes could pass current and sometimes could not. I also had a few customers whose condensing unit was so dirty that the compressor was overheating causing the inherent motor contacts to open. Hope this gives you some ideas to look.

My goodman unit (1994) makes the loud noise, like a buzzing noise. The unit works, the blower blows air into the house, the air is cold, but the outside fan that blows across the condenser piping isn'

you need to replace your condensing fan motor. the noise you are hearing is the compressor working against a lot of pressure because the heat is building up in you condensing unit. Prolonged operation without an operating condensing fan motor will cause your compressor to burn up, and then you will have the cost of a compressor changeout to the cost of a condensing fan motor.

Goodman heatpump fan runs, condenser wont start

Either the condenser fan has bad bearings, or it has a defective fan capacitor.
Turn off the breaker to the outside unit.
Spin the fan blade by hand.
If the fan blade spins easily and will spin a few revolutions with no problem the fan bearings are good.
If not, replace the fan motor due to bad bearings.
I am pretty sure you fan motor is bad because with a bad capacitor the fan motor will not get up to speed and may just sit and overheat.
I'm leaning toward a bad fan motor.

I had a goodman ARUF split system installed 8-25-09.Since then the heat exchanger blower motot replaced, cost $602.75,outdoor condenser unit fan motor to be replaced $592,00,recommend 5/8xing...

Hello, Usually it has to do with the quality of the install and the brand. If it was not installed properly from the beginning then the equipment will fail prematurely. As far as the heat exchanger goes I have replaced many heat exchangers on Goodmans after 3 years being installed, Goodmans are prone to bad heat exchangers.

My Goodman ac unit is still running but it just feels like the fan not ac. We don't know the problem but guessing the dual Air conditioning/heat Pump (CapacitorGSC130421AC) is bad. Please advise! Thank you...

If the fan motor on the outside condensing unit is running, but the compressor is not coming on, then yes, most of the time it is just a capacitor. It could also be the compressor has a short or bad valves. If the compressor comes on in the beginning, but shuts off while the fan motor is still running, then you could have a low/high charge, and the unit trips the internal overload switch because it overheats. Hope this helps.

What type of capacitor comes with a 5 ton Goodman Air conditioning unit model number CK60-1C

The best way to know what size capacitor it needs is to look on the label of the fan motor itself. It will tell you the size it needs. Condenser fan motors get replaced all the time with different capacitors needed. If you cant find a label or its too weathered, try to find a model number on the fan motor and any local A/C supply store will be able to look it up. Hope this helps.

Fan on condenser starts to work and than overheats

Spin the fan by hand. It should turn freely. If not it will cause it to overheat. If there are any ports to oil the fan bearings you can try that but you may need a new fan motor.

My AC unit comes on, but the fan doesn't work or blow air

Hi,
The condenser fan motor has gone bad... this is a very common problem. Find the specs. on the side of the motor and then get a replacement from Goodman or from a company like www.grainger.com
The fan motor is rather easy to replace, the worst part is getting the fan blades off of the shaft of the old motor. Use WD-40 and be patient...
