There is a green blinking canister next to the power reset button and next to it is an orange light with an exclamation point. What is this indicating?-

Its an information / error led . It says server hardware has encountered an error. Find device that has error and replace it if required .

You can see a similar orange color on device that has error .

Check these parts for orange color .
1: SMPS
2: Memory

Thanks

I have a blue vertical flashing light showing just above the Dell emblem. In the past there has been a solid light. I have checked on OpenManager which indicates all is well but I do not like unexplained...

Great thanks,

That's just a system indicator flash. Solid blue means on and normal, blinking means someone either turned on the system indicator in the management software or bumped the indicator switch on the back of the server. This was designed to make easier transitions from back to front when working with multiple servers in a rack. To turn the indicator off, just go to the back of the server and find the Ethernet and usb ports that are together. If the usb is the bottom and Ethernet port is the top then just to the right you should see a small blue blinking light and a button, pushing the button wil turn the blinking off.

Again, no worries this is just a "locator beacon" not an error message, if the light ever blinks yellow then you have an issue.

Hope this helps FixYa,

Chris

Orange blinking light on front

Does the system run normally otherwise? If you are able to boot to Windows ok, then you can check the Hardware/ESM Log in OpenManage. If you don't have OpenManage installed, you can download it from support.dell.com, under Drivers and Downloads - it is the OpenManage Server Administrator Managed Node. If the system does not boot to Windows, then please elaborate what the system is doing ... where does it stop? What is the last thing you see on the screen? Do you see any messages during POST?

System Fault indicator light on in a Gateway 975 Rackmount Server

If it is on steady and green, the server is operating normally.
If it is on steady and orange, the server is "in a critical or unrecoverable condition"

This is according ro the manual located at http://support.gateway.com/s/Manuals/Servers/8510289.pdf

If it is orange, for further diagnostics, you should see POST error codes, or hear relevant audible beep-code patterns, which can be interpreted by checking the tables in the PDF Server manual linked above. (Pages 125 and 128 respectively.)

If it's green, of course, you dont have a problem.

Giving and indicates blue light? what it means

radical93

Is the light solid or is blinking. If the light is the system status light by the network jacks, then solid blue system light is turned on no errors in the BMC. If the indicator is blinking blue this mean the system is turned on and is in system ID state.

Let me know know if you have any more questions

System will power on for about 3 seconds and then shut down and the blue indicator light on front is flashing

your poweredge has detected a hardware fault. If it is under warranty contact Dell. If it is out of warranty, you might carefully open the unit, and locate the fault diagnostic leds. They should be lit indicating the code for the fault condition/part.

Powers On if I plug it in, and power supply fan runs...

Think of blinking amber as the initial state of the LED. As long as the system is receiving power from a power source and can pass that power through the system board to the LED on the Control Panel it should, at least, blink amber. As a result, a blinking amber Power Button LED is a reliable indicator that the system is receiving power from a power source. This, in turn, tells us that the source and power cord are likely to be functional. The Blinking Amber LED also tells us that the power supply to system board connection is good as well as the connections between the system board, I/O Panel and Control Panel. Depending on the components installed and the condition of those components, the LED may progress past blinking amber and move to solid amber. If the LED does not progress past blinking amber it indicates that the system is not able to properly distribute power to the system components. This is discussed in the next section of the interaction.

It does not indicate that the power supply is bad. It simply indicates that, for whatever reason, one of the power supply 'rails' is not operating within its specified range or, simply, that there is a short somewhere in the system.
The LED state could be the result of a misconfigured or incorrectly installed system component. A bad drive, for example, may be shorting out one of the rails. Incorrectly installed memory can cause a blinking amber front panel power button LED.

Power light

Are you referring to to Power LED or the System Status Indicator cause what I can remember from that particular model Dell server thst system status indicator was blue! Use this page to help identify what exactly is showing up as orange(or amber)! http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/pe2600/en/sm/beep.htm#1057698 If it is the system status you'll need to go over the other indicators to troubleshoot what exactly is causing the problem! regards, babb
