Question about Fujitsu Siemens Premium Line P15-1 15" LCD Monitor

Fujitsu-Siemens P15 TFT power/picture problem.

My monitor has recently developed a problem when being turned on.

The power light flashes orange in a steady rhythm (approx 1 second on, 1 second off, repeat) and no picture whatsoever appears.

The PC boots normally, I can "guesstimate" the user login location for WinXP on the welcome screen, and sometimes can hear the startup noise through the TFT speakers (very faintly as the light pulses on).

I have tried 2 AC Leads, 2 analogue cables and my DVI-D cable as alternate inputs, and the mainboard graphics too, but still no signal. The monitor usually puts up a grey box saying "No Signal - Entering Sleep Mode" when no signal is detected, but this has not appeared. A second monitor on the same graphics card, with the same cables shows a picture, as it does on the mainboard Graphics card.

Sometimes, I can jiggle the leads in their sockets, and eventually (after many hours) it appears to solve whatever the problem is (or just wishful thinking after hours of frustration), and return the picture.

Sometimes when this happens, it is a normal start/power-up sequence, but sometimes the screen is totally whited-out, and I have to cycle the power to get a "waxy", striped effect which disappears from top to bottom as the real picture appears.

Any help or ideas would be welcome, but for the meantime, I'm having to buy a new TFT tomorrow, as leaving this one on 24/7 to prevent the problems and frustration, is not really a long-term solution.

Thanks.

    No, not solved.

I /think/ it could be the LCD "initiator", or something to do with the power (either the socket in the rear, or the little PCB board for the buttons on the front...). Other than that, I'm not sure.

I bought a second screen in the meantime.

    Hi

Did you solve this problem with your monitor yet? Because I have the same problem and I don't feel like buying a new one at this moment.

SOURCE: Fujitsu-Siemens P15 TFT power/picture problem. it take time to turn on.

It does indeed sounds like the capacitors, I had this problem last year with a Medion monitor where it would turn on and off, when I spoke to Medion they did say that it would need a repair but at the time I wasn't enclined to pay the repair fees for something that may happen again!

Personally I would stick with your plan of getting a new monitor because my view on monitor hardware issues is that if it's happened once it will happen again even if you do repair it resulting in a lot of hassle!

If you are going to DIY and already try the monitor with another PC, and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Screen colour suddenly gone wrong colour ie dull and blue tinted, not sure what model number but it is a 19inch 1

It sounds like the video cable plugs are not seated properly or bent pins, please check that out first, also try it with another PC to make sure it is not the PC video card problem.

It happens at random maybe after turned on for a couple of days, maybe after a couple of hours. More than three quaters of the screen just goes black, the other bit is still working fine.

Temporarily connect a different monitor to your computer, to see if your video-card is the problem.

Try a different "data" cable between your monitor and your video-output port.

My siemens LCD monitor back light turns off after 1 sec

You need to check out caps in the power supply section first, then check the backlight inverter circuits for bad fuse, transistors. It can also be bad lamps. See example of failed monitors due to bad caps: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
