In your router settings, try changing the protocol, from WEP to WPA/PSK or otherwise. Select one then this should restart your router. Once live see if you can find the router. Also try to set it to Open and also see if this changes anything.

Hope this helps.

Ethernet works wirelss is very slow

Most of the wireless adapters connect at a speed of 54mbps max, while wired lan connection adaptors (LAN adapter/cable) works at max of 100/1000mbps. hence use a cable to connect the PC to make it faster than using wireless.

Setting up internet

NO laptop has WIRELESS MODEM or ROUTER.

But yeah, there is always a WIRELESS LAN card in each laptop so that you can get connected to any Wireless Access Point like Routers,Bridges or Switches.

Your OS wizard will help you to configure all wireless settings.

I'd like to add the new notebook to my network.

You will need to reset the router to factory by holding in the reset button if you don't have the password. Before you do that, however, you will need your user name and password to re-configure and connect to the DSL provider. When you configure the wirelss network settings, write down your wireless password which should be different from the password you create to log in to the router.

Wireless adaptor

first try resetting your router.. unplug it for 5 minutes to "power down"... restart it and reboot the laptop... if this don't help.. Uninstall your network card from the device manager.. then reboot and reinstall network driver... if this still does not help.. open your Command prompt (from your Run Menu).. type : ipconfig / release then type ipconfig /renew. this will reset your DHCP server address .. Hope this helps

Wireless Network Dropping Out- NetGear WPN824 V.2 & Atheros AR5006EXS Wireless Network Adapter

Fergus,

Steps to troubleshoot are as follows.

1. check the physical connections. Go to a broadband testing site to see if you are connecting correctly b/c i am assuming you are wanting to connect to the internet. if not see next step. A common problem with internet connections is the timeout setttings on netgear you should set it to 0 for indefinite.

2. if your problem is related to just the connection between your pc and your router then you should just plug a lan cable in first to see if you can connect to the router without dropouts. This will help you to determine if the problem is with the router.

3. If it is the router then you need to double check your router configurations. Common problems are firewall rules, port forwarding settings etc etc.

4. if it is not the router then double check that the pc and the network card is working properly. If it is then make sure the the wireless adapter support the protocl eg. wep, wpa, wpatsk etc..make sure they are the same and that you should be setting the network key.

5. one final check is you need to turn off some of the rangemax functionality on the router b/c your wireless adaptor probably doesnt support it. try unsecure connections for a while to see if it works then start adding functionality to determine which one is the culprit.

I hope this help.
