How to turn on the wireless card on Sony pcg11211L

If your computer will not connect to a wireless Internet signal, one of the first things to check is whether your computer's wireless switch is turned on.

Many laptop computers have a switch located on the exterior of the computer that controls its ability to connect to wireless networks.

This switch can be accidentally turned off, preventing users from connecting to the Internet.

Determine if your computer's wireless connectivity has been disabled by viewing the network icon in the lower toolbar on your computer's desktop.

When there is a disruption in your computer's Internet connection, the icon will have a red X through it. For further information, go to the computer's Network and Sharing Center where you can troubleshoot connectivity issues and view available wireless networks.

If the computer isn't recognizing any wireless connections (and you're sure that there are wireless signals in your area), the likely problem is that the wireless switch is turned off.

Locate the wireless switch on your computer.

It may be located on either side of the laptop or along the back or front.
If you aren't sure whether your computer has a wireless switch, check the user guide that came with the unit.

Determine whether the switch is currently in the "On" or "Off" position.
The switch will be clearly labeled.

Push the switch in the direction of the "On" position to ensure that it is turned on.
If the switch was already turned on, see if there is a keyboard combination that will activate your laptop's wireless capability.

The key combination for your laptop will depend on your computer's manufacturer, but will generally involve a combination of the Function, Control or Alt and the F1 to F12 keys.

Check your user manual for your computer's key combination.

HP Pavilion a6602f suddenly stopped working for no apparent reason.

Hello there, I am the Expert that will be assisting you today. My name is Norman-Wynne Damstra.

Welcome to Fixya, Debdeb_64.

The power supply could be ok, this little green light that you see on the rear of the tower case is likely to be the Ethernet/Network connection.

Possible reasons for failure are as follows:
It could be a loose connection at the 24Pin or Processor 4Pin power connector.
A damaged power supply, is possible.
A faulty power on switch.
A dead mainboard.
A loose connection.

I have published a few guides that should help you in this regard, they are entitled:
How to Remove the Side Panels of My Computer Chassis!!!
How do I reset my BIOS/CMOS to defaults?
and most importantly My Computer is not turning on!!! Is it dead!!! No POST!!!

Do contact a computer technician to test components if need be.

Take care!

Monitor will come on when turned on and will show windows desktop and affter awhile it will turn off on two secends repeatedly

So it turns off an on every two seconds? Try either connecting another monitor to the computer, and see what happens. Or try another monitor jack on the computer. Like my computer has the built in VGA connection that came on the motherboard. But I installed a better external video card into the PCI 16X slot. So I use the video cards ports, but the motherboard port is still available.

Cannot get on the internet ,network adaptor is not working

First you want to make sure that you network adapter is truly not working and if not what part of it isn’t working.

First we need to check some settings. Open the start menu and then network connections, then show all connections. Some computers have been configured with out this option set, so to get to the open the “My Network Places” the on the right hand panel click “View Network Connections”. Insure that the network adapter that you use to connect to the Internet is enabled. If it is then we will move on, if not then double click the icon and it should enable the adapter (check to see if you can connect to the Internet).

Moving on, open the start menu and click the run button. In the box, type cmd.exe and hit enter. At the command prompt we will enter some commands to find out where the problem is. First type “ipconfig” and hit enter. If your IP address (the first IP address listed) is ok (anything not starting with 69) then that part is working on and we will have to move on. Next type “ping 127.0.0.1” and hit enter. This tests your operating system to see if it’s working. If you get a response then the problem isn’t your OS. If you get an error then we will need to trouble shoot that later. Now type “ping” then your IP address; this tests your network card to see if it’s working correctly. If you don’t get an error then you network card is working. The last command will test your network, type “ping” then your default gateways IP address. If you don’t get any errors then your problem might be with the network configurations in your router or you ISP.

If your IP address starts with 69 the there is something wrong with the way your computer is getting its IP address from your network. One easy way to fix that is to force it to accept a different on. In the “view my network connection” box, right click on the network adapter icon the properties. In the center box, scroll down to the internet protocol (TCP/IP) and highlight it the click the properties button. In the following box select the “use the following IP address” button. In the IP address area type “192.168.0.1” then hit tab and enter “255.255.255.0” the click ok. Now go back to the previous box and click the “obtain an IP address automatically” and click ok. Now try to connect and see what happens.

If you received an error from your ping test (127.0.0.1) then you need to reinstall the TCP/IP stack. To do that, all you need to do is highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click uninstall. Then click the install button, locate the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and then click install. Try to connect and see what happens.

If you received an error from your ping test (your IP address) then you can assume that your network card is bad and should buy a new Network Interface Card (NIC) at your local computer store. To install it, turn off your computer and you remove the screws (or push a button on the back of the computer depending on you computer). If you’re looking at the back panel it should be on the left side. The card should snap into place and install automatically. You should install any drivers that came with the hardware to make sure it operates properly.

If you got an error from your ping test to the “default gateway” then you network hardware is having problems. Try unplugging everything plug it back in. You need to make sure that you plug the modem in first and insure that all the lights turn green before you plug your router back in. If that doesn’t work you will need to replace your network hardware.

The last thing that it could be is your firewall. For that you may need to contact the manufacture to get proper configuration information.

If you’re still having problems, post a comment.

Good luck,
Eryk V

My HP Pavilion dv6000 the wireless connection stopped working and the light does not go blue to connect to internet. This happened 2 days ago. I can connect using a cable.

Check if it is only a software problem. Usually the blue light indicator functions with the physical slider switch. So even it is disabled in the network properties the indicator still lights when the physical switch is at "on" position.

Look in the back of the Gateway where you currently have the video cable connected. If there are two connectors, (Side by Side) there than disconnect & re-connect to the other. Your display should come up. Don't be fooled. Most Pc's that have no display on their monitor is not a monitor problem but a computer problem.
