Welcome to Fixya
Looks like that this is a common problem with this unit. Basic troubleshooting to fix this is to reinstall the drivers/software of the unit. If this will not fix the problem then you need to contact the manufacturer. Stratford is already aware of this issue. Here's the support number 888-550-9998.
Thank you for using Fixya!

I am glad to HELP YOU!
You are not the ONLY ONE that experience such kind of difficulties related to Stratford Labs (AEI) scanners. A friend of mine did too with a different model (505) but also a scanner.
So here are the solutions you can try to fix the problem (due various factors it's difficult to determine WHAT EXACTLY generated your error):
# if you have other devices connected via USB - disconnect them before you will start using your scanner;
# be sure that your USB port(s) is/are version 2.0; the earlier versions does not recognize the scanner;
# the scanner fully works ONLY with Windows operating systems (XP & Vista) but not with Mac OSX;
# switching the USB ports (connecting the scanner to ANOTHER USB available port) might solve your problem
# try to UPDATE the driver of the scanner (by going RIGHT-CLICK on MY COMPUTER > HARDWARE > DEVICE MANAGER and there selecting the scanner you will RIGHT-CLICK on it > PROPERTIES > DRIVER > and selecting UPDATE DRIVER; after the update was done just REBOOT)
GOOD LUCK!
Looks like a driver issue to me. Did you use the correct driver for your model?
Ok!
First, make sure it is connected to high speed usb compatible port. And try the installation again.
then, Contact Affiliated Enterprises (distributor) 1111 Rose Road, Lake Zurich, IL 60047 /847-550-9998/[email protected] to request a new copy of the installation CD.
Good Luck!
One more thing bhwillenbo, have you tried exploring the content of the cd installer. There must be something in one of its folder that you can use as driver for photo scanning. It's worth a try.

Hi, well i wonder if you aren't using Win 7? perhaps Vista? If so then I would imagine that the driver is NOT specifically written for your device?
You see not all devices will work correctly with Windows and if there isn't a specific driver, this doesn't mean it will not work at all, it simply usually only has rudimentary and basic functions enabled, This is what I think your problem is.
There is no real way around this, possibly trying "Compatibility Mode" for XP SP2 may work, and is worth a try, but again, while it may work, not all features maybe supported.
perhaps contacting Stanford labs, and ask them if there is a "Fix" there maybe a "Patch" that may help?
Of course ensure you have the very latest drivers installed too.

I've reinstalled the software twice. I've scanned the internet for a different driver and get the response that this is the best driver for it. I've called that number and left messages and gotten no response. I'm getting a little frustrated here.
I don't find anything. I'm running Vista and the Device Manager says that the device is a USB Scanner. It's using usbvideo.sys.
Thanks but I've done all those things and it still is recognized as the wrong device.
I'm running Vista on this pc and I did try it on a Windows 7 but with the same results. I try to get a response from the manufacturer today and if I don't, then I'm returning it since life is too short to keep messing around with something that doesn't work.
I finally talked to someone at Stratford labs and they said they are aware of the problem and they are trying to get a fix.
I've done all of these things. It still doesn't work. Stratford Labs says there is a problem with the distribution cd and they are trying to get a fix.
I bought a Stratford LaBA pa 01 dIGITAL pHRO
I absolutely give up. I'm boxing it up and shipping it back. This is my 2nd one and I'm through!
