Re: singer Futura ce - 150 embroidery unit
If driver was not installed properly the first thing you should check is whether you have 32bit or 64bit Vista. 64bit Vista is not supported and there is no possibility to launch Futura software on pc with such platform. If your Vista is 32bit and you have a driver installation problem send troubleshooting utility report to Singer.
A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

I tried the Husqvarna Viking dongle drivers for 4D VIP Customizing software on a new Windows 8.1 system, but nothing worked. (It worked fine on my old Vista system). After a few weeks of frustration, I found this site : http://www.safenet-inc.com/support_and_downloads/Download_Drivers/Sentinel_Drivers/.
I downloaded the Sentinel Driver v7.5.8 (they work for Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003/2008/2012/Vista & Windows 7&8 (32 bit and 64 bit)), installed it, restarted my computer, and everything worked like a charm.
Somebody should tell Husqvarna about those drivers...
Windows is able to run applications in Compatibility mode. Open the cd in Explorer, RIGHT click on the setup.exe file you see there. In properties look for compatability mode and set it to windows 95. It doesn't always work but often will.
After reading through your problem, I began doing some research. You are correct with your initial assumption. Singer at this time, does not support Vista 64bit Operating System. They will support it on Vista 32bit, but even then you would have to install it in what is called, "Compatability Mode." Unfortunately, it is not uncommon to have many vendors not have their software work on 64bit systems. Many programs/applications were only written to work on 32bit systems. Ocassionally, you will have a system work on 64bit, by almost pure accident. Here's the link for the system requirements on the Singer Quantum Futura. http://www.singerco.com/futural/qfutura.html
For the plain futura system, you can go to: http://www.singerco.com/futura
click on the Futura System Requirements.
If you would like to attempt to install to Vista x64. Try following the compatability mode for 32bit Vista. http://www.futura-support.com/downloads/patch.htm#/ read the "Click here" to read the detailed installation instructions for installing on a Vista system
It may be possible to run the Autopunch software in Compatability mode rather than the native Vista..
If you right click on the shortcut to Hyper/Auto punch and choose properties and left click on that. You should then see a tab at the top of that screen marked Compatibility. There should be a check box and a pulldown for Various versions of Windows. Check the box and select Windows XP Service pack 2.
You MAY also need to check the box for Run as an Administrator.
If this fails , then Im afraid you need to contact Singer to see if there is Vista Driver. If nothing is forthcomming, then downgrading to XP is the final option, (System will run faster too -) )
