It could be a number of things. Sounds like something a good repair center could troubleshoot and repair in an hour or so.

I have a Peavey CS 800. This amp overheats after 20 min on half way blast or full blast. I tried opening it and blowing the dust out and it still does not make a different. Help Please!

What you need to do is track down which part is getting the most hot. Then try replacing it. The best way is not to have it running to long. Then feel around (don't burn yourself) for the part that is generating the most heat. I suspect it will be transistor or IC that has developed a thermal fault.

PEAVEY XXL AMP HEAD PROBLEM!!! NEED HELP NOW!!!

Hi...

Do you have the Impedance switch set for the right cab?

Are you using a guitar cord to connect to speaker cab ?...If so, dont. Use a speaker cable.

Is the damping switch loose?

These are available from Peavey, but not for free. Expect a cost in the $20 range. Contact Peavey directly and ask for either service or parts.

My amp won't play sound without headphones plugged in

Hi..
1st off ,check the wire to the speaker. If that's ok then your headphone jack is broken inside. Peavey and others use cheesy headphone jacks.

Peavey xxx stopped working during a show

Hi lespaul 2001

Have you checked your HT fuse. If it fails it will have lights but no sound. Pays to check fuses with a multimeter, as they sometimes look good, but can be dud.

A faulty or intermittent lead speaker box lead will aldo make the head blow fusesCheck the lead to your speaker box also. Dont use a stomp box patch lead. be sure to use a decent speaker lead with quality jacks(switch craft) and at least 16 gauge cable. Ernie Ball make a decent speaker lead for guitar rigs.

If the head keeps blowing fuses, I would suggest that you change you output tubes(4 x 6L6GC). I recommend Electro Harmonix, by Sovtek as a budget conscious option. Get them as a gain matched quartet.

If it does not have a blown fuse at all... then get back to me here and we can do some more tests.

I am more than happy to answer any other questions you may have about it, just give me a hoy :) If you are still unsure, or have problems, then before you give a rating for this advice, please get back to me and we can try some more things.
Thanks for using FixYa, If you consider the advice I have given you as sound, a FixYa rating is a great reward for my efforts to help you. Cheers.

Bass amp settings

For rock and slapping you are going to want to set the Bass and Treble controls high and the Mids low. For music such as Jazz you are going to want more mids so that your sound will be fatter. If there is a button marked "Mid-Scoop" you'll want that on when slapping.

Peavey xxl question....

You may have a loose connection inside either to a transistor or the power supply. If everything looks good, you may need a new transistor. You need to do an ohm test or AC test to pinpoint which resistor is at fault.
