HP Pavilion dv9000z 17" Problem with monitor turning off

I have owned this laptop for just over a year. After the machine has been on for 5 to 10 minutes the screen shuts off and won't come back on again. I can hook it up to an external monitor and that seems to work fine. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you are clueless in this, better not to touch anything. The only thing you can do is reinstall the operative system, after backing up you files of course, so you will make sure the problem does not come from software. If the screen still failing you have to either repare it (which inplies disassembling) or replace it. In the first case i repeat, if you are clueless, better not to touch anything... and in the second case you should take it to an hp authorized technical service. It might be expensive but otherwise you could end up with a broken laptop.

Make sure your Notebook is not overheat if it is then you have to make sure the fan is working and have to work on the NB by placing it on a hard surface and also BIOS update will also help to resolve the issue.

if in case the notebook is not overheating boot to BIOS screen and check if the Notebook turns off by itself in bios if it does then its a hardware issue and you need to contact manufacturer to service the notebook

If your 9000 is under two years old, you should contact HP customer care and have unit serviced under warranty.
HP has had allot of problems with the 6000 and 9000 units and in response has offered an additional year from date of purchase.
Its worth a shut. Doesn't cost a dime.
Hope this information has helped you.

Notebook monitor not working

Turn out the room lights and see if have a correct, but real dim, display. If you do, then you have a bad inverter or back light. If you don't, then you have a loose LCD cable connector, bad LCD cable or bad CD.
