All you have to do is to examine your AV cable and make sure it is properly connected at both ends. If you find out that it is properly connected at both ends, and it is still giving you this problem, you may have to buy another AV cable as it is uncommon for a ps3 to have such a fault. Hope this was helpful?

PS3 is The amazing device by sony but it has some common problems like

With your PS3 on standby (red light) hold the on/off button down until it goes green and then back to red. This restores your PS3 to "factory settings", i.e. it is waiting for you to tell it how you want it to connect to your TV. Now disconnect any HDMI cables you may be trying to use and connect your PS3 to your TV via a scart connection. Now switch your PS3 on and turn to your AV channel and you should have both sound and pictures.
I have sound on video 2, and when on a static channel but not on the usual channel 3 which is TV. Just stoppen working one day and cant figure it out... Please help!
I'm sure you already checked the connections on both the ps3 and Tv to make sure they are firmly and properly connected. So, when turning on the ps3, hold the power button for at least 6 seconds until you hear a second beep. this should reset your audio/video settings to normal.
if using HDMI, wait for about a minute for the ps3 and TV to negotiate a connection.
