Doubleclik on "my computer" and rightclick on your harddrive and select "properties" from the menu, it will show you usage and size of your harddisk.

Hard drive keeps beeping and not recognised by the computer

Hi check on the device manger id the hard drive is being received by the computer. If it is listed then re-install the driver for it.

If it is not listed on device manger , try a different cable, try a different USB port. Try it in another computer or xbox/ps3 to see if it can be read by them

Also...

Re-install it into another caddy to make sure it not the caddy USB port damaged.

If the hard drive is making a loud noise, the hard drive may be damaged. It may also be the hard drive controller damaged.

Our MAXTOR Onetouch 4 mini is not recognized by computer. Can your software recover the data?

could be several issues to cause this fault, make sure your usb port is usb 2.0, replace the usb cable, take the unit apart and look for loose conections, try the drive in another caddy, or try another drive in the maxtor caddy. You will probably be able to remove the drive from the caddy and connect it into your computer if you have a tower and the correct connections.

Will I be able to recover information after receiving boot failure message?

A specialist will be able to recover data and if you can repair your system it will stay intact. There vare many models available with different sized hard drives.
To recover your data, I would remove the hard drive, place it in a caddy and copy the data off to a different PC or make a backup of it.

If you were to purchase another laptop and a disc caddy with USB, you can do it yourself quite easily.
Hope that helps.

This is almost definatly an E-IDE (PATA) desktop hard drive.
These drives are refered to as 3.5 inch drives, and laptop drives as 2.5 inch.

Specifically where is the hard drive for the toughbook cf- 27 - i've looked all over

Flip the laptop over and slide the 2 tabs that are near the carry handle to the unlocked position. This will allow the metal cover on the underside of the laptop to hinge up and be removed.

With the laptop upside down and the carry handle facing you, you should see the battery on the left of the laptop. On the right, there is a silver case about 4 inches long and 2.5 inches wide. This is the hard drive caddy.

To remove /this/ part, carefully push the connecting cable towards the battery until it smoothly disconnects from the hard drive caddy. Remove the caddy from the laptop. Using a small phillips screwdriver, remove the 3 small screws which hold the top of the caddy on. Remove the top, and you will see the hard drive.

As a note - be sure you do not remove the gel lining. This is 99.9% of the hard drive's shock protection. When you remove the hard drive, the cable should come out of the caddy as well. Put the new cable on a new hard drive (HDD must be smaller than 65,536MB), put the new hard drive into the caddy with cable attached, make sure the cable assembly is fitted into the caddy slot, replace the caddy cover, replace the screws, replace the caddy into the laptop. Then, make sure you connect the cable from the laptop PC board to the caddy cable assembly. Replace cover, turn on computer, and set up your Operating System (if needed).

How can i remove the hard drive from my packard bell club 79 computer?I have some pics on there i would like to put on my new pc but the old packard bell no longer connects to the net and as it had win98...

If you have a router with two thernet ports you can connect them together using this.
Otherwise you can take the hard drive out and connect it to your new computer but this can be tricky to do.
The other thing you could do is buy a USB hard disk caddy. Fit you hard drive into this and then connect it to the USB port of your new computer. Make sure the caddy will take your size and type of hard disk.

Hard drive

If you can find another working 6L300RO, you can try swapping the logic board from the working drive onto the dead one. Try this if all you want is to recover the data from the dead drive.
