Question about Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

Microwave fire Microwave came on by itself and started afire within. It got hot enough to burn through the glass plate and ring. Surely this is a hazard owners sould be warned of. If we were not home I don't know what would have happened.

Chances are your keypad shorted, or possibly a relay on the control board.

You should let us know the brand and model. There may be a recall.

If you haven't already, you should contact the manufacturer. I bet they would replace it.

Smoke with smoke is coming from the bottom vent of my microwave oven model NN-SE992S of Panasonic make - what are the probable reasons?

1) Food or some like substance has spilled or has gotten inside the machine, and is burning off when the machine is running.
2) You have a short circuit in the wiring of the machine, and it is getting ready to burn up.
Not many places offer microwave repair, and some that do will cost you more that a new one.
Suggest you consider replacing it.
If you are wanting to run it until it:
1) burns off the foreign matter, or
2) run it until it catches afire, please so so outside your house and far away from anything that will catch afire, like perhaps out in your back yard with no grass, or your driveway.

A small fire started inside the oven. Only the glass broke everything else seems fine. Can I continue using it.

Maybe, maybe not.
You can probably find a replacement glass tray at a Good Will store.
I don't think I'd run it indoors any more. I'd set it on a couple of cinder blocks in the middle of my concrete driveway and hook it to a long, heavy duty extension cord.
Wear a face shield and stand back at least 10 feet after pressing the start button.

You should go to YouTube and search "Can you microwave that".
It's a series of videos.

Glass plate does not go round

Take it out and take any other 'ring part' below it out as well until you only see the small pivot-thingy, then turn the oven on; when you don't see it spinning, motor failed completely and it's probably best just to buy a replacement (second hand or new).

If it does spin, it might be that it's burned out (i.e. not having enough torque anymore to spin the pivot including the glass plate (as the plate adds quite some weight) or jus that some of the plastics fittings are broken. In the later case you might be able to 'fix' it, either by fiddling some wires, glue or whatever. If the motor's just burnt; it's probably best to get a replacement microwave as replacing the engine is probably as expensive as buying a secondhand microwave ...

Heating up a heat pack has caused the small

The plate MIGHT cover the waveguide that brings the microwave energy into the cooking cavity, This might be say an inch by two or three inches.

IF the plate has burned or discolored, then it may be carbonized and will continue to absorb the microwave energy and MAY cach fire.

You should service the unit and replace the part.

Running the microwave with too small a load in it can cause this and also if hot food/object touches the plate.

Plate getting too hot

I don;t think your plate is micorwave safe. Put the plate and a glass measuring cup with water in the microwave for 1 minute, if the plate is hot and the water is not the plate is not microwave safe. IF the water is hot and the plate is not. I don't know what the problem is

Microwave plate doesn't fit on cog?!

I know this is probably DUMB of me to say, But some with this type of turntable arrangement, The ring would only set one way. The ring did not turn, but rather the wheels faced up and rolled with, and supported the turntable.

Sounds like some metal is involved somehow. If the unit otherwise works, replace the damaged parts. Test with a cup filled with water.
