The two problems are probably not related; color correction (if all are there-RGB) isn't a tough adjustment inside if the provided tint or color controls aren't effective. At least two of the three colors are adjustable and may be located on the CRT board plugged onto the jug. If you decide to try this yourself, be advised that somewhere between 20-25 THOUSAND volts are close by; on the board itself 60-100 volts typically meaning no metal tools allowed. Any electronics store will have a cheap set of plastic 'tuning tools.'

Dropping out completely could be troublesome to find unless it is a matter of a connector that is not contacting any longer.
This might be something you could try; after the set has been off and unplugged at least overnight, you could remove the back (normally ~ half-dozen or fewer screws), carefully pull each connector you see plugged into the board(s), one at a time, including the small board at the CRT base and plug them back in.

If you don't care to try these things or they don't work for you, I hope you know a retired TV repairman who will do it 'for a friend' since labor has become costly and some parts are either not available or expensive if from the manufacturer.

Sony FD Trinitron Wega model KV-34BR800

Sony Wega Triniton KV-32FS100 TV

For the last week my TV has been going to a black screen for 10 seconds or so then the picture returns. It has been continual. Last night it stopped going to black screen, but now the standby light flashes 5 consecutive times and the color went haywire. A lot of red and everything that is suppose to be black is green.

I did a soft and hard reset with no success. What's wrong and is it worth fixing? Bought new in November 2002.

KP-53HS10 Red blinking light/screen turns on and off

When a Sony does what you explain it usually only needs it's screen controls adjusted. This would be the first thing before replacing parts or any other trouble shooting, To do this you have to remove the speaker grill, there usually are two screws down low that are covered by plastic covers, once these are out the bottom pulls forward and slightly down. Then there will be another cover, remove that. Now you should see the inside of the TV. Near the front there will be a control ruffly the size of a pack of cigarettes and have six controls on it, Three are for focus and three for screens, Next find a video source that has no input, this simply means change to a input that has no signal, and gives you a black screen. Next simply turn the screens clockwise till a faint glow and retrace lines appear, then turn it back down till the color just disappears. Do this to all three, then you can re-glue them with fingernail polish if you want to.
Thats the simple way to set the levels on the CRT's, Sony's have a circuit that mutes the video until all the voltages are within a certain range, if the voltages are too far off it will give you the five blink error code, now if does not fix the problem there are other problems, This can be any thing from a weak CRT to a capacitor failing. And on a final note it is best to let the set run for at least 20 minute before doing this adjustment to let the voltages stabilize, and it is best to check it after another twenty minute to make sure it stayed

5 LED flashes is a CRT drive problem (IKR) CRT is poorly set G2 volts wrong or the CRT is exuasted. Either way you need an engineer and an estimate on the cost of repair.

No picture, standby light blinking

MOST LIKELY THE ERROR 3 IS THE 200V LINE TO THE CRT DRIVE IC.IC702. ON THE CRT PC BOARD. IT ALSO COULD HAVE GONE OUT IF YOU HAVE HEAVY USAGE ON THE SET 8-12 HRS A DAY. THE CTR COULD SHOT AND TAKE OUT THE I.C. AS FOR IS IT WORTH FIXING, THEY DON'T MAKE CRT TV'S ANY MORE AND THE NEW SETS SEEM TO HAVE A LOT OF PROBLEMS.

My tv blinks from black screen to picture

You might have loose conections on the horizontal driver or output circuit,do not use it like that or it will go dead completely and is going to cost a lot more.If the set is older than 5 years it might have loose conections in the power supply too.Call someone qualified for an estimate.
