There should be a termination point outside your house where the local phone company connects to the wiring inside your home. These are usually wired for at least two phone lines. Sounds like your house was at one time wired for two numbers and the jack that is working was on one number while the other two jacks were on a different number. Best thing to do is connect all three jacks to the working telephone line outside the house. Good Luck. ...Mike

My in house telephones are not working, but the internet is working.WHAT CAN I DO TO MAKE THE TEELEPHONE WORK AGAIN.

Have you paid the phone bill? Are you supposed to have phone service?

Providing that you have a contract with the phone company and it's paid up, take a hardwire telephone out to the grey junction box on the outside of the house. Open the junction box and plug your phone into one of the two phone jacks inside, Try the phone. If you get no dial tone, try the other phone jack.

If you get no dial tone from either phone jack, borrow a hardwire telephone from a neighbor and try both jacks again with the borrowed telephone.

If no dial tone with your phone or your neighbor's phone, then the problem is on the phone company's side of that junction box.

If your neighbor's phone works but yours doesn't, the problem is your phones - lightening strike, maybe?

If your phone works in the junction box but not inside the house, then the wiring from the junction box to your house jacks has a bad connection somewhere. Someone - you or someone else - will have the arduous task of tracking down where that bad connection is.

Error message CHECK TEL LINE my phone line is connected and i followed all the right steps to connect my handset to the base HELP!

This sort of issue requires you to check if the base or the phone line has a problem.

I prefer to use an old corded phone for testing. I also get a new RJ-11 cable. Unplug your phone base from the jack and check for dial tone when you plug in your test phone.

If you get a dial tone on the test phone, try the new cable with your cordless phone. If you still get that message, then the phone has failed. If it is under warranty, contact the manufacturer for repairs. If it is out of warranty, then determine if it is worth fixing or replacing. These phones are not designed to be fixed by the end user.

If you do not have a dial tone, take your test phone to another jack on the phone line. Check if there is a dial tone at that point. If there is a dial tone, the problem is at the first jack or the phone line to the jack.

If you still do not have a dial tone at the second jack, find where your telephone service comes in. Open the box and determine the type of connection used. If you are lucky, it will have RJ-11 connections. Plug your test phone into the jack and check for a dial tone. If you do not have a dial tone at this point, call your telephone company. They will fix the problem for free. If you find that the connection is not an RJ-11 type, call the phone company and have them test the line and repair it if needed.

If you have a dial tone at the service box, then you have an inside wiring problem. Inspect the visible wires for damage. Open the faceplates for the jacks and check for loose wires. There are two types of connectors. Screw type connectors need the wire stripped back a little then wrap around the screw and tighten. The other type is a punchdown jack. To repair a loose wire in this, you will need a punchdown tool. These are often available in hardware/home improvement stores in the wiring section. http://www.lanshack.com/wire_phone_jack.aspx has clear pictures of the wire color to pin pattern.

You may want a professional to check the wires inside the walls. Your telephone provider will do this for a fee.

I hope this helps.

What do you check when the phone lists a message of "Check TEL Line"? The phone cord in plugged in so I'm not sure where to go from here. I have a model DECT1480

Usually this means that the phone isn't detecting a dial tone. For diagnostic purposes, I like an old corded phone.

First try a new telephone cable between the jack and the phone. Then try the old phone and see if you have a dial tone. If you have a dial tone with the old phone but not the cordless, then the Uniden needs service. These phones are not designed to be fixed by the user. If the phone is under warranty, send it in. (see page 28 of the manual www.uniden.com/pdf/DECT1480-3om.pdf )

If neither phone gets a dial tone, check at another jack if you have several to see if the jack is the problem or if it is a more global problem. If the problem is at one jack, you may want to open the jack and check for a loose wire. Some wall plates hold the wires with screws; others use a keystone jack with the wires pressed into slots using a "punch down tool". Keystone jacks do not need the insulator removed from the individual wires. For the screw connectors, you do need strip the individual wires. The punch down tool is available at many hardware stores in the electrical section (for wiring homes for ethernet and other services).

If you do not have a dial tone at another jack, find where your telephone service comes into your home. Open the panel and identify how the connection is set up. Some use RJ-11 jacks. In that case, plug in your test phone and see if there is a dial tone at that point. If there is no dial tone, contact your phone company for service. There is a break in the wires coming into your home. The phone company will fix this for free. (If the service doesn't use an RJ-11 jack, you need a special adapter to test at this point. Your phone company technicians will have this.)

If there is a dial tone at the incoming service, you have a inside wiring problem. Check any visible phone wiring for damage to the insulation. If the problem is with wiring inside a wall past the jack, you will need a professional to track the break. Your phone company will fix this for a fee.

I hope this helps.

We have a no line message, and are not recieving phone calls. How do we fix that?

You need to find out where the fault is. I like an old corded phone for this. Check if a different phone gets a dial tone at the jack and other jacks inside the building. If no dial tone inside, find where the phone service comes in. Open that box and if it has a RJ-11 connection, check if you get dial tone at the junction. (If you have an older service, you will need a special line tester to check the service.) If you have no dial tone at the service box, contact your phone company - there is a problem with the service. (It could be some idiot damaged a wire digging or something else.) If there is a dial tone at the service connection, you need to find the break in your inside wiring. Open up the jacks and check any visible wiring for loose wires or damaged wires. If there is no obvious damage, you will need to look at the hidden wiring (a professional to do the work might be best).

Good luck.

How do I test my phone jacks? I have no dial

There should be a gray box on the exterior of your house called a network interface device(NID). Unscrew the left half (or lower on some) marked customer side. there should be 1 or 2 places that have 2 screw terminals and a small telephone cord that is pluged into a small jack. Unplug the small cord and plug in one of your phones from your house into the jack. If you get dial tone then the problem is either in one of your phones or in the house wiring. If you still dont get dial tone then the line is dead on from the telco side(call the phone company).

Uniden cordless phone. No dial tone.

Hi peddler65, did you plug your phone into another area to see if there is a dial tone. Then if not call the phone company or find the D-mark (where your dial tone ) comes into your home and put a jack on that and plug a phone in with all phones in the house unplugged.

Thanks.

No dial tone

Did you plug in another phone to see if there is dial tone. Then if not call the phone company or find the D-mark (where your dial tone ) comes into your home and put a jack on that and plug a phone in with all phones in the house unpluged. Let me know this is a very general comment about dial tone so if you can get more specific that would be great.

is your computer hooked up dsl or dial up? unplug all the phones and computer from the phone jacks.plug a corded phone into the jack and check for dial. if you don't have dial tone, call your phone company. if you do have dial tone, plug everything in one at a time and see if the phone line goes dead.if it does, the last thing you plugged in is the problem.
