The motor may have a capacitor that has failed. Start Capacitors and/or motor winding "shades" are used to determine the direction of rotation, if the capacitor is checked and is defective replace it, if the capacitor is tested and is functional the fan motor may need to be replaced. it is helpful to include the model and serial number of the unit to ensure the wiring diagram is correct for your fan.

SOURCE: hampton bay fan, wall mount remote control

Hello burrow31. There maybe a switch located on the fan stating 'remote/manual'. Check your manual. Remove the battiers in your remote and short out the battery contact terminals. Reinstall the battiers, start the fan and after fan has reached set speed press & hold fan speed button for one second. Still no speed change contact the Mgfr. with model & serial #.

SOURCE: Outdoor fan motor is not running fast enough?

Thanks for the suggestion. I figured out the problem. The replacement fan motor I bought was general fan motor. it had 5 wires. Two of them went to the capacitor (this unit has combo capacitor, 3 leg). I followed the schematic diag on the motor and connected one leg to the C and the other leg to the FAN on capacitor. what was happening, the start winding was working against the run winding in the motor. Once I switch the wires in the capacitor, fan ran at full speed. thanks again for your reply.

SOURCE: Accutek AOJ 1601R fan wouldn't start

hi there,

it always can fix, there are several factror to check, you should have a multi tester to use to check the circuit.it might be on the switch,
cable or on the motor.
open the control box of the fan, there are set screw loosen this and you will see the connection of electrical connection of cable supply and the swicth.
set tester on rx1 check continuity of the cable plug supply, red rod of tester on plug take one wire, black test rod on the other end of cable plug.this other end of wire is on control box.see if pointer of tester move on to no.10 or 20ohms if move its good.try also on the other side of wire.if does not move replaced the wire.
if you can see a fuse check this,by tester
on rx1 attached red test rod on one end of fuse black rod on the other end,if move the pointer its good but if not, replace fuse, actually all fan motor have thermistor fuse inside the motor,it was mounted on the inner side of winding of
motor it look like a resistor or sometime a form of small square resistor has two terminals,to test this, red test rod on one terminal and black test rod on the other terminal if pointer of tester does not move replace thermistor.
to get the termistor fuse you should open
the motor, this is not easy job.but small pc. of motor will give you knowledge how to fix your small appliances.,on motor there are four lock in bolt, before you can pull out the motor disconnect the wiring from the switch cut this
by cutter plier leave a small color lead of wire
when you cut, allow you to remember the connection when putting back.when you dismantle the motor, loosen the four lock in bolt and pull out the winding on motor case
on winding cut the plastic strip, find the thermistor fuse, this was insulated, careful to cut small wire this are all terminal of motor
replace the thermistor if busted.
put back and try to run your fan again.
unplug your fan before doing this this should be done by technician, have anice day rate my fix thanks a lot.

SOURCE: Condenser fan running backwards on heat pump

I am having the same problem, sometimes it runs in the wrong direction, blowing the air down. Sometimes something gets tripped and I need to turn the thermostat to off and wait a bit then restart it. If I am lucky it will run int the correct direction and also will warm the house. Sometimes it send nothing but cold air to the house's forced air.

On a 2007 lincoln navigator the a/c fan motor will not shut off. the fan adjustment bars are showing slower but still the fan is on high

The fan speed reostat is broken or the switch itself is bad. Try replacing the switch first because the motor speed reostat is part of the motor itself. $$$

Hunter fan remote bypass

This fan uses a "ballast" to run the fan. The ballast (part #272) probably contains wiring for multiple speeds. Here is a manual that discusses the wiring- http://www.hunterfan.com/SupportDocuments/OwnersManuals/42700.pdf.
To use a wall mounted fan dimmer, you need to identify the high speed wires and connect them to the dimmer switch. This method will bypass the other speed windings and is not as power efficient.

Inside fan wont come on

Hello, this could be a problem with the motor itself of possibly the control board. Easy way to check is to just bypass the board. You can do this by using a jumper wire and hooking it up to the L1 wire and the high speed motor wire. If the motor start up you have a bad control board, if not the motor is bad. Also, inspect the capacitor, this is a round or oval can in the blower compartment.

The blower on the fan is stuck on high...we have taken the fuse out and checked it...not the problem...we then took the climate control unit out and unplugged them, but the fan kept blowing on high...is...

This is most likely the Blower Motor Resistor located near the Blower Motor. This controls the Fan Speeds. Usually when these fail it will only work on the High setting, meaning it does not work on settings 1 or 2 or 3 (with four speed setting). This usually located behind the dash Glove Box and mounted on the fire wall . You will need to take the Glove Box out to access. It is approx 3 1/2 inches wide by 1 1/2 inches in height. It is defined with 3 or 4 wires going into it. It is easy to remove (two (2) 8mm bolt/metal screws) and replace. Purchase the part at the auto parts store versus at the dealer to save you a lot of money.

Wall remote will not start the fan at the 2 lowest speeds.

definitely not the motor, most likely the remote or reciever. Doesn't matter which because you can't buy them seperateley. Home depot has them for $30-$40
