Unfortunately, water is very damaging to a phone, and often voids your warranty for getting it fixed. There's even an indicator in some phones that turns from white to red when it gets wet to tell a manufacturer that the phone has been submerged in water.

Technically, you'll need to buy a new phone, unless your carrier is feeling especially nice in which case they may just give you a new one, or they may give you a new one if you can convince them the water moisture indicator is white and not red ;)

Tip

What to do when you phone drops into water or any liquid.

When your phone drops into water or any kind of liquid, the phone has to be fully dried for it to work well again.

Immediately your phone drops into any liquid, first thing to do is to remove the battery and clean it very well. After that, get a phone screw driver, unscrew all the phone screws, remove the phone cover in order to gain access to the phone panel. Gently remove/detach the screen from the phone board.

Get a methylated spirit and a soft tooth brush, dip the tooth brush into the spirit and use the brush to clean/wash the phone board. Brush every part of the board with the spirit.

After that, dry the phone board/panel under an electric bulb or under sunlight. Allow it to dry very well. Let the board get hot. Then leave the board for 5mins or more to cool.

After that, couple back the phone, fix in the battery and try again. Phone should power on and function well again.

Good luck.

Hi, your best bet would be to take the phone back to the company where it was purchased. depending on your contract you may get a free replacment.

The only key that works is the OFF key. cannot recieve or make calls or perform any function

There could enter some water inside. Open the phone and clean the flex cable connectors, on the board and on the flat with a toothbrush with some pure alcohol, dry it well and mount back.

I dropped iphone down the toilet put it in a bag of rice. My home key wont work and my internet what do i do?

How long has it been since you dropped it in water? Sometimes you can let it dry for a few days and find that it works fine again. Sometimes, the water corrodes the circuit boards and you'll lose some or all functionality. If it continues to not work, take it to an Apple Store if you have one close by. They may or may not choose to replace it under warranty. You can also try calling AppleCare (1-800-275-2273 in the US) FYI, it's better to not lie about accidental damage. They usually have ways of knowing about liquid damage. Good luck!

Phone was dropped and I can no longer use the key pad buttons. other buttons on the front face, eg menu buttons are working.

Hi,

When a phone drops on the flow it can develop a problem from anywhere in the phone.

You can check the flex of the phone and see if it has shifted from the position it was. After checking the flex of the phone, you can also check the from board where the screen is.

The place that my have caused the keypad not to function will be from the flex of the phone.

Take care.

Cell phone was dropped in water and the display is gone

you can take the battery and the back off the device and place in completely submerged in a bag of white rice and leave it in there for 1 to 2 days this will help absorb the moisture, this should fix it if the water did not damage the circut boards if the water damaged the circut boards then the device is fried
