your watch crown has 3 position. the normal position, the second position and the third position. pull it to the second position then turn it counter clockwise or vice versa. then push it to normal position if your done. i hope i had helped you..

You said your watch was a "101", I assume that is a Forerunner 101.

The instruction say "press and hold the power button until the welcome page is displayed".

Perhaps you are not holding on to the power button for long enough?

Incidentally, if you do not have a copy of the instruction manual, you can obtain a copy from their web site "garmin.com". "Select support" and "manuals", fill in all three boxes and select your manual from the list given.

check it here.. you will surely be able to solve it as i have just done...

press top left and it will say HOLD for setting.. so hold it... then choose one step after the other with the left bottom.. and increase with right top and decrease with right bottom.. rest you can find in the manual at the website... good luck...
