Your belt is probably broken. Check your belt and make sure your brushroll has not seized. If both of those check out ok, (because the smartvac belt doesn't stretch,) the belt tensioner assembly may have gone bad.

Eureka Smart Vac The Boss no suction from either setting. I have taken it apart trying to see if it was clogged but it isn't. Checked the hose it is not sliced.

Remove the bag cover and feel for suction above the motor. If their is suction there then check the bag compartment is sealed. You can drop a coin down the hose to check for blockages all the way to where the bag attaches.

I replaced the belt in our Eureka Boss Smart Vac, it still seems loose, it uses a type R belt. The beater belt still doesn't seem to turn properly and seems that it doesn't pick up very well when I use it...

Check to see that the beater brush is not frozen up. Pull the brush and clean it, spraying some WD40 on each end piece that holds the brush in place. Also be sure the belt is properly installed so that the brush turns in the correct direction. If the brush is not turning or not turning in the correct direction, it will not beat the dirt from the carpet so that it can be picked up by the vacuum's suction.

Why does my vacuum leave a trail of hair on my floors when it's being pulled backward but suction up fine when it's going forward?

It is because the belt is worn and stretched. when you go forward there isn' t as much resistance and the brush can turn and pick up, but when you go back there is more resistance and doesn't pick up. You simply need to replace the belt. Here is the belt you need:

4870 roller part number

I know the belt number
Eureka Part Number: 61110B (Replaces 61110, 61110A)
And the roller i think: Genuine Eureka Brush roller part number 61250-3 for Eureka The Boss/Smart vac/smartvac ultra 4800 series vacuums including models 4870 and 4880
Hope this helps you.

I have a Eureka 'The Boss Smart Vac'. The beater

Yes, you need to replace the belt. You should actually change this belt every year. Here is a link to the belt you need and the manual which has instructions:

I have a eureka the boss smart vac petlover vacuum and I cannot find the book on how to replace the belt. I have opened it up, but there is a silver roller that is confusing me.

Either go directly to the Eureka internet site, or GOOGLE "eureka boss smart pet lover manual". Several options should be displayed to download the needed manual.

No suction on my eureka boss smart vac. The belt is fine and the roller moves. I just changed the bag but no dice. any insight?

I know this is an old question but this is a good vac and maybe I can help somebody else some day, wish I'd figured this out a couple months ago when this problem first started. :} Anywho, this is another option from an amateur; I don't know the right terms but here goes: Right below the yellow flow knob (Floor/Hose) are the tops of two hoses, one to floor beater, one leading to hose. There is a sort of black clip holding these in place. Open it up, it hinges toward the front of the vacuum. On the back of the vacuum to the right of the lower cord wrap is a gray screw-looking thing, with little pix of locks imprinted above - one locked, one unlocked. Turn the screw toward unlock. Take the top of the black tube that leads to the hose and maneuver it out of the hole it's in, and you may find your clog in the top there. I found just a handful of dog hair, leaves and sticks stuffed in that tube but it was dense enough to stop flow to the hose. Removing it fixed the problem completely.

I havc a boss smart vac and it does not **** well especially throught the hose. I have lost the handbook. have recently replaced the belt. still does not work right. help

Sounds like either there is a clog in the hose or the paper bag is not installed correctly.
If it as a bagless machine, clean all your filters thoroughly....let them dry completely before putting them back in.

Hose has no suction

Most uprights need to be in the up-right locked position to enable the hose pickup.
