Question about Sony Televison & Video

3 Answers

I have a Sony Handycam DCR-PC100 that is now flashing an error code C:31:23 in the display when I try to play back the DV cassette in the video camera. Please advise what this code means and if the footage on my DV cassette is in danger. Thanks.

Tried that and now I am getting error code C:31:40 instead. Do you know what these error codes mean?

, giveit a bash canmake it work. Not too hard, just a few sharp smacks on the side.
It's something in the cassette carrier mechanism.
or
it could be the memory stick. you have to remove it, then, again place it properly it may work check it out.
or
The error message is related to one of the reels,
the black rubber one .

open up the cassette compartment, and the black rubber thing
comes out .... you put it back and cam would work again,

The reason for the alarm is because the "s-reel" is not fit in
same location. There must be a "locker" for it, put on top of
the pin, which apparently have fallen off my cam.

you can use the bis pen .you break the BIC pen, and the ink-pipe had exactly
the same dimension as the silver pin (approx 1.5 mills)
you cut it to a good length (not sticking out), put the black reel
in place again, and the BIC-pipe as a "new" lock on the pin.

  1. Remove the battery or disconnect the AC power adapter for 60 seconds.
  2. Insert the battery or reconnect the AC adapter.
  3. Turn on the camcorder.
  4. If the error message appears, service may be required.
If your camcorder still shows the same error code, then you'll have to send in your camcorder for service.

Try playing the dv casette on another player, it should be fine.

The C31 indicates that there is a motor movement problem. I don't have the manual handy at the moment, but the :23 will indicate which movement is having the problem. This is not typically a DIY repair. I woul d strongly suggest that you check the fixed repair cost from a Sony authorized service center. This will not only repair the unit, but also reset it back to factory specifications.

I'll look up the error code tonight and try to update this.

Windows 7 sucks. Try "downgrading" to Win XP. I've had many problems with my new computer which had Windows 7, which have all been solved after I made the downgrading.

Sony DCR-hc42 video camera problems

Buy a Sony-make head cleaning cassette and play it in the camera for 10 seconds. Do not play for more time, neither forward or reverse the cleaning cassette, otherwise you will damage the head of the camera. This cleaning cassette is to be thrown when it is fully played (and not rewound!).

Check your computer user’s manual, if your computer doesn’t have a Firewire port, you need to buy an IEEE1394 card to install in your computer and a firewire cable to connect your Mini DV. Check with your local computer store
