Playstation 3 automatically defaults to 1080p resolution when you open the box, if your tv does not accept or display 1080p resolution what you want to do is plug it in using component cables and go into the playstation settings and lower it to 1080i then reconnect using HDMI and you should get a picture

DVI to HDMI

HDMI and DVI use the same encoding scheme for video purposes- the only difference is HDMI can carry audio signals and therefore have different connectors- so it is not like the lack of a picture signal is because you are using two different cables (HDMI and DVI). In theory the DVI to HDMI adapter should work.
Is there a possibility that the adapter is defective? Any bent or missing pins?
How long are the cables? If they are of poor quality, a digital signal can be lost at 20 feet. Again, in theory.
The only other thing I can thing of, off the top of my head is to ask, did you change the input selection on your t.v.'s display screen to go from the input source that you get your t.v stations from... to the input source of the Play Station?

Try using a different HDMI port on the TV. It may be you are plugging it into a the DVI-HDMI port, which does not display FULL HD, or carry sound.
Hope this helps

How do i change from 480i to 1080 on my Toshiba 52HM95 DLP im trying to hook up my playstation 3 with an HDMI cable but it wont switch over to 1080i

Most TVs choose the resolution based on the signal coming in. Be careful if you try and use 1080P. Not all TVs support it. 1080P is only on HDMI. set the playstation to 1080i before connection.
Some TVs and Playstation HDMI do not mix well due to software in the HDMI ports. Try RGB cables.

Technika LCD37-907 no sound from hdmi ports

Are you using the Audio out RCA connectors at the back of the set. Are you watching/listening from source connected on HDMI input?

I have Technika LCDDVD19-918 TV. The manual specifically states "Audio Line Outs - Note: line out feature cannot be used while in HDMI source, us SPDIF instead". You could try using the headphone jack for audio out.

I have a phillips 26pf5520d/10 model number, ive connected a dvi cable and hdmi cable to my playstation 3 and tv, but i have no sound, please any ideas. many thanks steph

I'm assuming you mean you have HDMI coming out of the PS3 and going in to the DVI port on the back of the TV, via an adaptor or cable with a different connector on either end.
I have the same TV, you need a separate audio connection between ps3 and tv. HDMI can transmit audio and video but DVI (which is what the TV has) can only do video.
You'll need a 2 x phono female to 3.5mm jack male adaptor cable. like this one to make the audio connection.
you could also try this adaptor but its a bit big and therefore may not fit into the space available.
after getting an adaptor do this (keep your original setup the same)
1. Put the ps3 AV cable into the back of the ps3. 2. then connect the red and white plugs (ignore the yellow) from the ps3 AV into the adaptor (discussed above). 3. then connect the 3.5mm jack (from the adaptor) into the small audio port right next to the DVI port on the back of the TV (I believe its called 'DVI Audio')
I've not tried this and I don't have a ps3, yet, but in theory it should work, as long as the ps3 will send audio to the av output at the same time as to the hdmi output.
if it works, then post a response, i'd like to know for the future.
good luck

How do you hook up a Playstation 3?

The cable that comes with the PS3 can be plugged into the front flip up panel for initial setup. However, you'd be better off getting a PS3 component cable and using one of the component connectors in the rear of the set. The 55513 doesn't have HDMI, so that option is out. If the PS3 was previously connected to a HDMI TV, you'll need to reset it by holding the power button down for quite a while while turning it on. I did it a while back and I think that's what it was. This will bring it out of HDMI mode and back to compsite. Hope this helps.
