Amana dlw330ra, loud and leaking

My Amana washer, model # DLW330RA, has been REALLY LOUD (regular noise just as though someone turned the volume all the way up) for about 3 months. When it started making the noise it was also leaking. Naturally I blamed my husband :)

The noise never stopped but the leak did, and the functionality of the machine was not effected.

Now it's leaking again. HELP!! Please. Thanks!!

HI,

Your washer can develop several types of leaks. You can track down a leak based on when it occurs:

During fill only If the washer leaks only during the fill cycle, check these:

  • Air-gap device -The air gap is a small device found on most washers that prevents the wash water from being siphoned into the household water supply. It's located either mid-way along or at the end of the black rubber hose that comes from the water-inlet valve. Often it's made of translucent plastic. If one of the air-gap components deforms or cracks, you may need to replace it.

  • The tube -There's a rubber tube that runs between the water-inlet valve and either the air-gap or the inlet spout. If it cracks or breaks, it can cause a leak.

  • Inlet spout -Most washers have a plastic spout near the top of the main clothes tub that directs the water into the tub. If the spout cracks or breaks free of its mounting, it can cause a leak.

During drain and spin only A washer that leaks only during the spin cycle often has a leak in the main drain hose. Inspect the entire hose and correct any problem you find. Alternatively, the steel or plastic outer tubs can rust, split, or be punctured. This may be most visible during large loads and high water levels. If this happens, you may have to replace the entire outer tub--but that may not be an economical repair to make. Consult a qualified appliance repair technician for further details.

All the time If the washer leaks all the time, check these:

  • Hot and cold water fill hoses - Check the hot and cold water hoses from the household plumbing. If either hose is leaking, tighten it or replace it, as appropriate.

  • Main tub seal - The main tub seal is located between the transmission and the outer tub. It's the primary water seal in the outer tub for the transmission-shaft entry point. If this seal leaks, you can see the leak by opening up the machine's main access panel while the machine is full of water with a small amount of detergent in it. The leak appears at the underside of the outer tub, at or near the center. This seal is difficult to replace. You probably should call a qualified appliance repair technician.

  • Pump - If the pump leaks, you can probably spot the leak when the tub is full of water. The pump has two or more black rubber or plastic hoses attached to it and usually has a drive belt that spins the pump. If the pump is leaking, you need to replace it.

  • Outer tub - Over time, the steel or plastic outer tubs can rust, split, or be punctured. If this happens, you may have to replace the entire outer tub--but that may not be an economical repair to make. Consult a qualified appliance repair technician for further details.

The leaking is likely to come from the tub gasket or a hub seal .check the seal under the inner tub the seal should be loose leaking. The noise is coming from the bearing due to wear as the leakage continues .
Remove the front panel by removing the 2-5/16" screws located at the bottom front. Pull out at the bottom to release the top retainer clips,
if you cant do it your self you can get a service personnel to change the gasket and the seal for you to stop the leakage

Its either the upper spin bearing or lower spin bearing.because of which the noice is coming. the upper can be replaced by itself but the lower requires the transmission the be replaced.
for lekage check when its leaking from wher the water drops are coming it could be any thing from, hose, seal, pump, tub, or due to some blockage in it, or some thing broken.

It sounds like you have a worn out seal under your washer. pull the washer out a bit and tilt it backwards. or put something under the feet so you can look under it. turn the machine on look while it is running and see if you can tell where the leak is... there are many hoses under the machine that can give out over time and start to leak. also there is a seal in the bottom of the washer that will wear out and leak over time due to ear and tear.

also if you do not see any water coming from the bottom of the machine pull it out and see if your hoses on the back of the machine are leaking where it hooks up to your water. there are seals inside the hoses that connect from your house to the washer. if those are weak the machine will leak from there... if that is the case than you just need to replace the hoses. they now have steel wrapped hoses that are very good.

Tub bearing or lower bearing has failed..... the tub bearing is bad, it is a sign the seal has failed and could start leaking. You can run the machine until the bearings lock up but this may also damage the transmission...

Hello! The belt broke on our Amana Mod.# DLW330RAW . Could you explain how to install the new belt? Thanks Ron

Remove the bottom kick plate.
Remove 4 big bolts and unplug the motor. Move the motor assembly to a work bench. You need a T-20 torx driver to remove the pump screws and remember the rear pump leg goes between the belt. I have your Amana washer repair manual HERE

Amana - noise while washing, not when spinning

There is a device called an Oldham coupling that connects the output of the electric motor to the transmission on the tub. It uses rubber vibration dampers in the coupling. Get some WD 40 and spray it generously on the coupling. You will have to tilt the machine nearly onto its side to see and spray the coupling so get some help.

Amana dlw330 washer belt urned & broke again

Had the same problem on a machine I worked on. Changed the belt... was burnt and broken. Second time I replaced the belt, I ran it through all of the cycles and listened to it on SPIN cycle.. Although it's spinning.. it's making an extremely LOUD noise... It's the Spin bearing that is gone out. When a load is put in, and in spin cycle, the bearing is oveloaded..(being dry).. and putting extreme pressure on the motor and belt. When the drum reaches a point where the bearing just won't spin, the belt stops, and spins on the motor pulley, wearing it through.. (And smoking a great deal).. until it breaks.. again. I believe the top "Spin bearing" is about 75.00 or so.. and a BEAR to replace. Hope this helps

Loud whirring sound

no problem withthe water they sometimes use a water ring for balance, or you may be hearing water reaming in the pump and hose areaa, its always there. as far as not spinning completly you may need to replace the belt or the idler(tension pulley), two 5/16 screw along the very bottom of unit will gai you access to see inside the machine
