How do I open a Maxell mini DV tape case? I have one cassette that is broken - tape is fine - I need to transfer the tape reels to a new cassette. Same brand of cassette.

Hello FixYa, I was able to find a post in the internet to help. While you service is convenient, the cost and my immediate need really dictated my continued search. Thank-you anyways for your time.

My tape (tdk mini dv 60) was damaged by my sony camcorder. i need help fixing it. it's twisted inside the cassette. is there a way to untwist and splice the damaged part out?

Well if it's not personnal? I would send it to a camera store and have them repair it. If it is personnal? I would set time aside and dismantle it remembering how it goes back together.

The tape broke. How do I get it reconnected?

is the tape outside the cassette? or inside the case itself (if inside we have to open and connect it to reel) but outside you need the paper thin masking tape 1/2 to 1 inch wide (cellophane is to thick)...now take both ends of tape..the tape on left side cut a 1/8 inch (hold in left hand cut on a diagonal toward the left)..(just FYI this is called splicing) now the right one cut it about 1/8 inch also in the same manner toward the left)..now cut a 1/2 inch of masking place on table...place the right tape on tape leaving at least half for the other part to go on....now take the scissors cut off any excess masking tape on both edges of tape...this should help get your first job at hand done....recording to dvd....have fun

How can I manually rewind a mini DV tape?

Hello!

To manually rewind a tape you will need a flat head screwdriver.

Find a screwdriver that fits the "spoke" in the reels of the tape.

Turn the screwdriver toward the center of the tape. (i.e. Left side - clockwise, Right side - counter clockwise)

If this solution does not resolve your issue or if you have more questions please comment below in this thread and I will be more than happy to further assist you!

Happy New Year!

Feedback is appreciated!

I have a broken VHS cassette.

You can remove the 4 or 5 screws at the bottom of the tape, turn the tape over CAREFULLY pull the top off. If the tape pulled out of the end of 1 spool, you have to remove the clip in the tape hub, reinsert the tape and snap the clip back in. Holding the tape door open so as not to catch tape, put top back on and replace screws. Hope this helps.

What are the best tapes to buy to recrod from your reel to reel. I have some tapes that record and some don;t. Is it becaue they old or defected. Help me out. vp

maxell or tdk (which is hard to find now)....if your reel is 7 inch you want 1800 ft, normal bias (lo noise hi output) tape (for 10 inch you will use the 2400 ft) ....anything longer your tape will be dragging (both while recording and playing) hope this is helpful...feel free to rate

Mini cassette tape is wrapped around one spool inside the casette

1). Remove the five screws from top half of cassette shell. If the cassette shell halves are glued together, very carefully split the shell with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Maneuver the screwdriver around the shell to break its seal. Avoid getting cut or damaging internal components of cassette.
2).Carefully lift off the top half of the cassette shell.
3). Pull the head if the tape from the left reel.
4). cut-off the damaged edge, and attached a peice of sctoth tape to the shining side of the tape, and leave about 1/2 inches of scotch tape beyond the head of the recording tape.
5). trim the sctoch tape using single edge of the sctoch tape razor or X-Acto knife to the same width as the recording tape.
6). carefully insert and tape the head of the recording tape to the right reel. and manually wind the tape till the recoding tape is flat to the front of the recoding pad.
7). carefully close the top shell, make sure not to pinch the tape. use your finguer trun the right reel, make sure the tape winds freely.
8). secured the top with screws.

Tape won't play

I am assuming that the problem is with just the one tape...

Two things spring to mind - Either the tape has snapped or the reel lock mechanism is jammed.

1) Check the tape. With the cassette the right way up, press the little button on the right-hand end just behind the tape flap, flip the tape flap up and check that there is actually some tape there. If not, it's snapped.

2) With the cassette upside-down and with the tape flap facing away from you, you should see a small hole in the centre of the cassette about 2cm from the edge nearest you. Press something gently in here to release the reel locks. Then give both reels a couple of small turns back and forth (a finger stuck in the reel holes is ideal for this!) Before you put the cassette back into your machine, make sure there isn't any slack on the tape by gently winding any excess back in by turning the reels, but don't wind it to tightly - the moment you feel resistance, stop.

Hope this helps,

Matt
