YOUR HARDRIVE MAY BE MALFUNCTIONING, IF U HAVE A RECOVERY CD, U MUST GO INTO THE COMPUTER SETUP, WHICH GIVES U THE KEYS TO PRESS WHEN THE COMPUTER COMES ON USUALLYA KEY LIKE F1 OR F8, PRESS THE CORRESPONDING KEY, GO TO THE BOOT MENU AND CHANGE THE BOOT SEQENCE TO BOOT FROM CD DRIVE INSTEAD OF HARDDRIVE FIRST ORDER. Green power light comes on but disk drive lights keep blinking and my screen is black on my dell dimension 4700

Remove ALL media from the machine DVD, CD, USB, etc. Check/reseat all Monitor cables. Reboot. If that fails, unplug , plug back in in 30 seconds or so. reboot, if you get a Dell Logo, Open the boot Menu and select Boot from HDD first.

Keep getting checkpoint errors, and have changed Sys Battery , reset Bios and when i boot it ,it goes to Dell logo and keeps trying to reboot. Windows will not load.

Try going to the BIOS and see if it reboots from there. If it does, then it is most probably a hardware problem. You can try re-seating the memory modules and If you have multiple modules, try them one at a time.
If it does not reboot while you are in the BIOS, then the problem lies on Windows. Get your DELL Restore CD or your Operating System CD and insert it to the CD-ROM drive. Reboot the computer and press F12 while seeing the Dell logo, that should give you the options to boot to CD-ROM. It will give you a quick prompt of "press any key to boot to cd..". Make sure you press the space bar during this time to initiate the boot from CD-ROM.
Once the Windows Setup loads, Choose "Recovery Console" to repair your computer. Just choose the installation you would like to repair (normally it's number 1) then it will ask you for the administrator password. By default, the password is blank, but if you set a password for admin then use that password.
Once you get to the prompt, Type this command. "CHKDSK /R" (without the quotes). It will initiate the repair for your OS. This might take an hour or so. Just wait for it to finish and it will automatically reboot your computer. Let the computer computer reboot normally. You should be able to get to your normal windows screen back.
Good Luck.

Screen goes black. the power light is on, but the picture goes out. if i turn the power off, then on again it comes back for about 5 seconds, then goes black again.

Check to see if this problem follows in safe mode. Reboot and when the Dell splash screen comes up tap F8 until you see the multiboot options. Scroll to "safe Mode with Networking" let the machine boot up and see if you have a screen. If you do, right click on the desktop and set the resolution to 800 X600 and reboot normally. Usually when a screen goes blank in normal mode but shows up in safe mode means you have an incompatible resolution for the monitor or graphics adapter. This may be a driver issue or hardware. If the screen boots up in normal mode at the lower resolution, then try and go to properties again and bump the resolution up a bit, if it blanks again, try to go online and update the driver for the graphics chip.

Dell dimension 3000. Just Black Screen no Windows XP.

From your description, you were able to boot the machine properly in Safe Mode. While in Safe Mode, change the video resolution to the lowest possible (color depth does not matter at this point). You should also check that you are configured for single monitor operation if your video card supports multiple monitors. Reboot the machine normally. If all goes well, you can readjust your video settings for a higher resolution again.

The monitor on my Dell Inspiron 8500 goes blank. It will come on when starting Windows, but then goes blank.

Restart windows in vga mode, keep pressing f8 the boot options come up after bios has posted.
If windows loads and you can see it then its a driver problem. From safe mode remvove the driver, reboot windows and make sure you install the latest driver.
