BIOS was upgraded from 1.10 to 1.40. This solved the password utility ertc. problem, but now everything basically controlled from within BIOS (e.g. WiFi, audio, USB ports) are no longer working within Vista. Very frustrating.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

Same issue with BIOS 1.20. Flashed to BIOS 1.40. Same issue.

The system was originally shipped with Vista RTM. Now it has Vista SP1. Not sure if SP1 introduced the issue or not. I don't think so because I have another identical system that runs SP1 fine. Sounds like a motherboard or an ATI/AMD southbridge chipset problem. Try doing a system recovery to see if the issue goes away. If not send it in to Toshiba for repairs.

1 usb port on toshiba satellite c660 doesn't recognize mouse

If is just a USB port, then it could be a driver problem, or that USB hub is turn off, or is a fried/bad USB port. Try another USB device on that port too.

Try moving the arc mouse USB dongle to another USB port on your Toshiba Satellite L650. If the mouse works on the other port, then the first port is the problem. Use Control Panel's Device Manager to further diagnose the port problem.

There are a few toys and devices made in China that deadshort the USB terminals. I hope you have not bought and installed one of these. I had 2 in the shop a year ago with some Dora Explorer usb toy that toasted the usb once installed. If you have bought and installed something about the same time as the usb stopped working you will need to call the company that made the device and demand they replace your motherboard.

USB ports not working. Any ideas?

In that case ,
Click on start and run
Type devmgmt.msc

Then uninstall all devices under universal serial bus controller.

Then need to click on any option in the list and scan for h/w changes.

This will install all devices back and your system will be able to recognize all devices now.

Hope this help.

Cheers!!!!!!!

USB PORTS DO NOT WORK

Turn off computer and try connecting an older mouse to the mouse port. If it works:

Right click Computer>click properties>click hardware>click Device Manager> click USB adapters. Then check to see if some of them are marked. Also you can click on each one to see if each is OK. Make sure that USB is enabled in the BIOS.
