Intel website shows this is not a motherboard model # but instead is an Intel designed chipset used by P4 and Celeron D motherboards. These chipsets are often placed on motherboards from many different manufacturers with sometimes a little bit of modification built into the motherboard by its manufacturer.
Often what happens is someone loads a driver that they THINK is made for the motherboard which causes a boot up error. This often happens when people get their drivers from various non-manufacturer websites
Intel manufactured motherboard model #s with this chipset include the 845GVFN and the 845GVSR models, but there may others that have not been added to the Intel website that covers this chipset. Sound IS included as part of the original design of this chipset and Intel has a driver for built sound, however it doesn not mean it would work extremely well with all of the various manufacturer modified designs.. Now to add to this little bit of confusion a technician must add that previous installs of various ( believed to be correct ) drivers will corrupt what would be otherwise a good driver installation. This means that is often wise to properly remove all previous audio drivers before installing the good driver from the manufacturer ( Intel or the motherboard manufacturer modified driver ). Now I'm hoping that you see the absolute necessity of knowing who manufactured your motherboard and what its Model number is... So please give us information that is pertinent... Oh, just so you know Vista especially should auto-detect and auto install the proper Intel unified audio driver for the motherboard no matter who the manufacturer is, however XP since it was created before Intel went to the unified driver design may have more difficulties and require the driver from the manufacturer. More infomation is located at the Intel website but since you failed to give us your motherboard manufacturer and model #, everything else is a guess. All information for your Intel Chipset can be found at this website
