Canon Pixma IP4300 - cartridge recognition preventing any printing happening.

A few months ago the magenta cartridge went in with light on but then the printer said it needed to be changed and the light went off. I have since tried to replace the cartridge but the printer doesn't recognize the new one at all. I'm not that fussed about colour printing but the printer won't do anything in black or colour unless the problem is resolved.

I have the exact same problem, just replaced all the colours with original cannon inks, been using it for a few weeks with no problems and now the Yellow refuses to be recognised by the printer even though the cartridge is vertually full. If i take the cartridge out and replace it again it lights up, but once the slide retracts it seems to go off. ;-(

Same problem; light on cartridge goes out. NOot able to print black text pages. Replaced cartridge but not recognized, light still out.
    Can't print anything.
Had this problem 2 weeks ago and called canon. Printer just over warranty time limit and they wanted to charge me $$ to read off a help/cheat sheet. Eventually they sent me a new cartridge [diff color, said it was the cartridge's fault....now I don't believe it...] but I have the same problem with a different color cartidge. I can't print out anything on the printer and that is not good.
    Any suggestions welcome.
    thanks

I seem to be having a similar problem with my cannon pixma 4300 as certain others, i have just recently replaced all the inks with " original" cannon inks and all of a sudden it refuses to print anything, it says that one of the inks is not working, ( Yellow) I remove it, replace it again and the light comes on but when the slide retracts the light seems to go off. any ideas would be great, this seems to be a fault i have read a few times.

On this site there is a solution for your problem.

The solution is meant for Canon IP4300, but can be used for Pixma MP830 as well.

Canon IP4300 - the two black ink cartridges

No!

The large cartridge is used for text only printing.
The smaller black cartridge is used for black in images such as pictures.

You have a "C (cyan) M (magenta) Y (yellow) and B (black) color system. This actually saves the color inks for you. If the Black was not there, you would need to make a composite black from the color inks.

Printer won't recognize the new ink cartridge

Each cartridge has a electronic chip pre-porogrammed at the factory.
If it is a reputable store they will exchange for the right color as they can return the PM to Canon as defective,

IP4300 only recognizes magenta OR cyan

1. Get compressed air
2. Run Printhead under HOT water, do not worry about contacts getting slightly wet.

3. Blow compressed air with straw attachment into screens where the cartridge nozzle sits on printhead. then let it sit and dry.

4. reinstall print test page

5. if this fails open paint/photoshop and print a page of the color that is not printing correctly. rinse and repeat until colors flow freely.

I have several ip4300s and I have yet to give up the ghost on a printer with a clog ujsing this method.

Magenta cartridge

I just wrote the same solution but I'm not familiar with this site however, I am JonathanD. I read about the ink cartridges having an expiration date on a chip that prevents the printer from recognizing the ink cartridge after that date. I called Canon to find out where that date is located on the ink cartridge or packaging so I can see how long it's good for when I buy them. They told me that there was no expiration date and the ink is good indefinitely... so I told them what I heard about the chip. I was then put on hold for a while and when they got back on the phone, I was told that they were sending me a new Magenta 8 cartridge "as a courtesy."

Frequent problems with the magenta cartridge of my PIXMA MP510.

Dirty or faulty contacts in the cartridge chamber is the only logical explanation.
Remove the cart and with a cotton wool bud and a little alcohol or similar[NOT ACTETONE it melts plastic] give a gentle clean.
