Sounds like the back light of the screen is playing up or there is a loose wire. Either way the screen will stop completely and will not keep working. The best thing to do is try and buy a new back light for laptop screen and replace it, or take it to a professional to look at and repair for you. It's not a simply fix. Thanks igi_57!

Emachine ET1161-05 desktop...monitor keeps going to sleep...comes back on only if i move the mouse...very annoying, i don't want my monitor to ever go into sleep mode...pls help

This may be something that Windows (or the computer is telling Windows) to do. Everyone wants to reduce the power consumption in the computer, so be default your monitor may be going into 'sleep' mode and turning off.
1) To change this, RIGHT click on the Windows desktop. 2) When the menu appears, select PROPERTIES, then select the SCREEN SAVER tab. 3) There are 2 things to check here. First at the top, make sure that your screen saver is selecting something beside BLANK. This will cause the monitor to blank out and appear to have turned off. 4) The second thing to check is the POWER settings. Click the POWER button at the bottom on the screen. 5) Now, you will see 2 rows of power options, one for when the computer is plugged in (which is all the time with your desktop) and the other is when on batteries. We're concerned with the PLUGGED IN settings. 6) Make sure the TURN OFF MONITOR setting is set for NEVER. This will ensure that your monitor never turns off on you. 7) Now click OK and OK and now your monitor shouldn't turn off on you.
Hope this response helps you out.
Best of luck!

The spynet watch turns on the but the screen is blank I can hear sounds but can not see the menu screen

When exactly you lost the display?

Just right after turning on the computer? While working in Windows? Or every time you open a program or application?

If problem happened just right after turning on the computer, we have 2 point of failures: Monitor or the VGA CARD/MOBO Onboard.

To test your monitor. While computer and monitor is ON. Unplug the VGA cord at the back or the monitor and check if you will see a box moving across the screen says monitor self test.

If no display replace monitor.

It monitor self test passed. Connect computer to a different monitor and if problem persist then update the video card driver or the motherboard chipset. If all fails then you have to replace your video card or motherboard.

Pls do consider replacing the VGA cord as well.

Hope this helps.

System starts up but goes to blank screen

This may happen due to several reasons. First, check if the power supply line to the monitor is loose at any of the two ends. If yes, tighten it. As a simple measure, keep that blank screen and tighten the codes to see if it works. If that is not the case, switch off your system and UNPLUG it. Then open up your CPU and clean all those dusts present there. Sometimes this problem can occur due to moisture present there. So wipe everything with dry cloth. CAUTION: DO NOT USE COTTON. USE ONLY A DRY CLOTH. Before closing down the CPU, take out the RAM(s), wipe it's tip with CLEAN COTTON slightly dipped in spirit (After Shave Lotion will do). Then put back the RAM(s) in position. This is not only to clean it, but also to make it a bit more seated. Now start up your system to check if it is OK. If none of this works, try re-installing the OS. This is a last measure and it can fix your problem, mostly.

I turned on the computer and blank monitor screen.

have you checked if monitor cables are properly seated? have you tried a different known good video cable? also try a different outlet for the power supply for the monitor. lastly, try a different monitor and hook it to your tower. if it has a good display, then you should replace monitor, if still it has same issue, thenyou may want to consider changing your videocard.

No image on onitor dell desktop -

if you have no image on the monitor when you hook monitor to other pc and you installed the video drivers for monitor and still no image then you got either a bad power cable for your monitor or your monitor is shot...get a new monitor... try testing again with a different power cable... if still the same... then monitor is shot... replace it...

Blank screen on my laptop but power button is on.

Depending on what kind of laptop you have, your button may look different. Look at the Function keys (all those keys up at the top that have F's in front of them) and see if there is another colored symbol on any of them. You should find a colored symbol that looks like a rectangular monitor.

Press another key toward the bottom of your keyboard that probably says "Fn" or some other kind of "Function" key - not Alt, Ctrl, or Shift. Hold that Fn key down while you press the first key you found that looks like a monitor. That will change your laptop video output mode between several different modes like: laptop LCD panel only; LCD panel and external monitor; and external monitor only.

The purpose of this is if you wanted to plug another monitor into the back of your laptop, or a projector for a meeting or presentation, etc.

Monitor displays breifly then goes to blank screen

If tried the monitor on two other computers with the same result -- definitly your monitor is faulty. Take it to the repair shop. To make double sure, run your computer with another monitor. If everything is fine now; you can blame the monitor.

Emachines model 780 monitor comes on for one second then goes blank

CANNOT COMPUTE!!!! NEED MORE DATA! Is your monitor the problem or the computer? Try connecting the monitor to another computer. You can also try connecting a laptop with an external video adaptor to the monitor to test it.

No video display

If the video card is built into the motherboard then try starting in safe mode and reinstalling the drivers from scratch. Download the latest drivers from the dell website. Safe mode will reduce the resolution and use a generic VGA driver. If your video card is plugged into a PCI slot try unplugging the video card and using a different slot and going through the same process. If you are still not getting any output to your monitor and you are positive the monitor is fine then you may need a new video card. To be sure, if the video card isn't embedded to the mother board, you could take it out and try it in a different computer. Hope that helps.
