Question about Sony HDR-SR8 HD Camcorder
I couldn't find any HDR-SR11 HD models in my search in 'FixYa'.
While on a recent vacation for a month in Mongolia and Western China, with the climax of the trip being the 2008 Solar Eclipse, my Sony HDR-SR11 stopped working.
Note: No impact, water, sand or any other external environmental events occurred.
Problem: I noticed the battery was running low (approximately 1 min remained according the camera). I placed the camcorder in standby. After approximately 15 minutes, I went to power the unit back on. The unit failed to turn on, so I assumed the battery ran out (below the batteries knee). I then replaced the battery with a spare, fully charged battery. The unit still would not turn on. When I got to some AC power, I plugged the unit it and still the unit failed to turn on. With AC power plugged in, the unit continues to appear 'Dead' without any LEDs or lights illuminating. Another gentleman on the journey had the same model. We plugged his camera into my camera and it still failed. We plugged my battery into his camera, and his camera operated properly.
I suspect this is a software initialization problem??? Since the unit most likely lost power with it being in 'standby', I suspect the unit is "lost."
I've tried hitting the reset button, along with a bunch of combinations of other buttons and on switches. I've tried to plug it in via the USB port to see if I can get to the hard drive and/or see the unit - unsuccessful.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Problem seems in power supply section at VC-516 (main board). If you know how to open and repair it, just check Fuses at VC-516 board and these are located near connector coming from battery / dc-in jack area. One fuse is open in this case.

I had the same problem today....exactly. However, it know it is not the battery / dc-in jack because I have 2; and neither will power up the camera.
Any other suggestions?
