New to record playing - some issues

Sorry, new to playing LPs.. When I try to play a record I'm getting a very high screeching sound. I thought the needle was pressing up against the record too much but I raise it a bit and the record starts skipping. Probably something simple, but I'm lost. Any help? I picked up a brand new Technics truntable from GuitarCenter and Shure needle/cartridge. Thanks

Crosley cr 54 cd records sound bad

It could be that the needle is worn. Also make sure that dust and dirt have not accumulated on the needle. It could be a bad ground. You didn't really describe what "sound awful" means. The phono section of the amplifier is much more sensitive than the amplifier section for the CD or radio because it is using much less input signal.

Every record skips in different places

You should look for an anti-skate control on the turntable and adjust that. It will be a question of trial and error with it as there is no fixed rules for these. The weight on the back of the arm should be set to the weight of your cartridge.

I just recently bought a new turntable, and when it plays my LPs, the LPs sound somewhat slower than the original. Does the slowness have to do with the belt of the turntable? Is there anyway I can fi

If the 45's play OK then your belt might not be fitted in the right place. If they are both slow, then either the belt is slack or the drive is faulty.

My Jensen JTA 450 is playing LPs too slow even though 33RPM is already set. The songs are slower than usual. Please help me.

The record that you are trying to play maybe a 45rpm recording. Some 45's were released in album size recordings.

Try some anti-static record cleaner. You can also get an anti-static matt to put the records on.

Pitch out of Tune

That is a strange issue. Not sure what could be causing this. Are you describing your issue correctly. Or do the records sound warped? If they sound warped, check to make sure that your voltage setting is set correctly for your area (115V or 220V). This is a switch located underneath your turntable platter. Just make sure you power off your unit before making the switch.

If this is not the issue, then I have no clue what you are talking about, as I've never hear about this on a 1200 turntable, and I work on them for a living.

Please be even more specific, or if you can, give us a call here @ the shop, and maybe play a record for us. Perhaps we can walk you through it over the phone. 1.877.357.7677 ext 1

Some sounds are lower in songs

Well, it seems you answered your own question. Replace your stylus. If that doesn't solve your problem, the issue might be your RCA cables or tonearm.

What many people don't understand is that it takes ALOT to wear out a record. I mean, you would have to play a record about a good 1000 times before you'll see any sort of real wear/tear on it. Why do you think they last so long? Besides, record wear doesn't sound like that. With TRUE record wear you'll experience lots of skipping from your stylus, as the grooves have worn down. Also, you'll get alot of pan issues, where the sound goes in/out left/right side. The grooves of a record are a V shape, and the left side of the V carries the left signal, and the right side carries the right signal. With record wear, usually 1 side will wear out quicker than the other, and that's why you'll get inconsistencies with sound.

Unless you play the same record over and over again for the past few years, you wont see this kind of wear.

Replace your stylus first, then have your RCA cables and tonearm checked. Try cleaning out your tonearm with 99.9% PURE ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL and see if that does anything.

Good luck

Volume

LPs were mastered back in the day with no real volume standard--ceertain sounds had to be mastered light because the engraving on the master disc was so sensitive.....digital technology does not have that problem....digital takes a lot of volume before it starts to break-up...
