Thanks ,when i turn on my system from standby the bass unit makes a horiffic crunching eletric buzzing noise and i have now noticed the fan (not working) but im not sure it has to heat up before kicking in?but after the noise has gone 4-5mins the system sounds lovely deep bass ect, this system was given to me in by a uncle who died (im not trying to ask for a sympathtic ear) but it do,s have sentimental value and its the best system i have had , if i open it up is there anyting i could do myself ie change fuse cause i cannot find a diagram of the insides ? thankyou very much if you can help or for reading my email ps im not a rich man and wouldnt be able to afford to send it to kef not only cos of price but p+p for 3 stone system thanks .

I can understand sentimental attachment.

The symptom you describe could be something as simple as a "dry" soldered joint but finding and rectifying it, if indeed it is only that, needs a deal of experience and knowledge you clearly do not possess and learning on a treasured item is not advisable because getting it wrong can cause a great deal more trouble.

I suggest you look in your local classified directory for a suitable repair shop - there is usually a few in every locality repairing tv, radio and audio equipment, in-car entertainment and general electronic repairs. Most people doing that sort of work are cheaper than official dealers and use cheaper parts, yet many of them began by working for the bigger brands.

You have a bad set of Audio output IC's for the sub. There is two of them. TDA7293 REPLACE BOTH!!!
There is 4 on one side of board,and 2 on other "also 1 small one" The the two are for the sub,the other 4 are for the main speakers/surround. They sell on Ebay for $6-10 each or a kit of all 6 for $25.

They sell on Ebay for $6-10 each or a kit of all 6 for $25. I would replace all 6 on your system. To insure that the other's do not go bad after fixing the bad ones.

Hello Zing77,

I understand that you are having a problem with your Rudd condensor. The fan is turning slowly and the compressor is making a buzzing noise which has a Diversitech hard start conected to the capcitor.

You have already replaced the run capcitory on the unit and have attached the compressor wire to therm and c and the fan to therm and fan. The hard start kit shoudl be attached to the therm and c with your compressor wires attached to the same place. The hard start kit is to give the compressor the extra push (electrical charge) to start.

You need to check your connections and make sure that you purchased the proper run capcitor. If you have purchased the proper compacitor and the connections are right then you have a bad fan and the compressor as gone out on the unit.

Hi mate i had similar problem my 12 volt blow all good i thought every thing worked after fixing but i noticed my bass was weak subs would still move a lot but not pump no real bass coming from them .After eliminating most things i hooked dvd player to amp with cd inside to test if head unit was outputing bass and i found that my head units bass out put had a cry but fuse in headunit was fine and i was fused in 2 spots from 12volt source new head unit and all good again hope this helps

Strange buzzing can also be caused by a stuck or damaged key. Does pressing ESC help at all?

Unlikely to be the hard drive. They crunch and grind but don't buzz, unless they're completely knackered, when they can give you a three-tone buzz sound and won't spin up at all.
