I have a 1995 Cobra 25 ltd. Power is getting to the cb but the s/rf gague doesn't move at all. i can plug in a pa speaker and it works flawlessly. I have tested other antennas and mikes with the same results. it worked fine untill a few days ago when i turned my truck on and s/rf meter just did not work incoming or outgoing. thanks for the comments. by the way it is wired directly to the battery if that makes a difference.
Often times this can be fixed by slightly loosening the screw on the top of the meter housing. Time, heat and other factors can cause the plastic housing to shrink and mess up the original setting on the needle pivots. I fixed mine this way and it continues to work to this day.

plug the external speaker into your PA jack and select the PA switch. If PA works then the audio chip is good. The cobra 29 must have a mic plugged in to get receive audio, You may have a broken wire at the mic connector.
Does the signal meter show any signal? Try plugging something into and out of the EXT Speaker jack to see if maybe that is preventing the internal speaker from working, or plug in an external speaker or headphone to test it. If the meter shows nothing, I'm concerned about your electronics, especially with the 'squelch' control 'wide-open'. 73's
You can get a pa speaker at Radio Shack.....in the back of the radio there should be a pa jack, just plug it right in and put your radio on pa function, and you should be ready to go.....hope this helps....
The problem could be a range of things. Generally these radios use the same amplifier for the PA and receiver output. If the radio is receiving (usually the needle on the meter moves) then it may be bad contacts on the relay. Before pulling it apart check that the squelch setting is set to low and the RF gain is high. Check that the external speaker jack is not damaged (internally). If all seems OK visually try to connect one wire from a speaker (8 ohms) to the chasis of the radio and then use the other wire to probe different wires that are connected to the external speaker jack and on board speaker to see if you get an output there.
I have the identical model and also had the same problem. I took it in to an appliance repair and they found a problem with the output circut something about a burnt transistor is what they said. I had them replace it and has been working fine since. Hope this helps.
