AVIC-Z1 options just quit

I have an AVIC-Z1 in an '01 F-150. Shipped the truck to Hawaii, after about a week I have lost almost all functions! Tuner is good, mapping is good, but no address search, background change, etc. I did have to change the touch screen due to cracking. Functions quit before that. I also have a bypass switch installed, which now makes no difference. Pioneer wants me to send the unit in......its not the unit....or is it??????

No I cracked the screen trying to get the "Search for address" to work. I've done the firmware update. I did the hard reset with no luck. I could see that this might work if only one or two options were unavailable. But I've seem to have lost almost all mapping functions. POI, return home, etc have disconnected. Thanks for the help

Ok I think I may have narrowed it down to the bypass switch. I tried a DVD and no video! I have audio but no video. Is there a way to bypass the switch? The switch is under the dash connected to a light green wire. Any help??????????

It actually sounds like you don't have your parking break wire (light green wire on wireing harness) grounded. I have an 06 F150 and the same thing happened to me when I instaled it. I had no address search and some other functions didn't work as well. Try to locate the light green wire and ground that to anything metal. Hope this helps, the install manual isn't very good at describing this.

May very well be the unit...the hard drive inside may have been damaged during shipping (rare, but not uncommon). Was the touch screen damaged during transit?
Also, try disconnecting constant power (hard reset) from the unit and see is the reset helps. Downloadable from Pioneer's website is a firmware update for the Z1, although this usually just works to help freezes.

One of the pistons that move the screen in place must be stuck. The unit must be taken apart to fix this.

A cd is stuck in my Pioneer AVIC Z1 nav system. I

This is a tricky one you could try tyaking the top of the radio off and see if you can help slide it out. Another trick is to get a thin stiff piece of cardboard like the back of a writing tablet cut a strip apx. 2" wide and 6" long. Take a piece of ducktape and with the sticky side up insert under the disc hit eject and see if that will coax it out.

Can I install a Pioneer Avic Z1 into a 2002 gmc jimmy?if so is there a dash kit and wiring harness available?

Yes, that is the best way to go. Most local automotive stereo stores sell an installation kit that has a surround that the new stereo mounts in to and fits the space of the stock stereo, and also comes with a wiring harness that wires the new stereo to a plug that fits tthe car's stock radio connector.

My Avic Z1 won't read any disc inserted in drive. Any Ideas?

You have problem with the reading head of the cd. if it has warranty send it back or else you have to try to clean the head with a cotton stick and it will work fine if the head is not broken.

First of all you should have know better than to force it. If you can't get your money back from the seller, and I don't think he will if you mention this, I'm interested if the price is right to buy it from you as is. Email me at: joe_texan_1951@yahoo.com
