Screen saver will not come on

It sounds like you have some program running in the background that is preventing your screen saver from showing. This could be a virus scan, or some other program you unknowingly downloaded from the internet....(spyware, etc). Check to make sure nothing is running in background and do a full scan for virus, spyware, etc.

Microsoft 4000 optical mouse

Try this - Go to control panel > mouse > hardware tab > properties > power management tab
Make sure the entry "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby" is checked.

If you meant that your screen saver doesnt come on because the mouse is plugged in, it could be because the surface on which your mouse is rested is uneven or extremely smooth, causing the mouse to move, or that the mouse sensitivity properties are set very high. When not in use, try placing the mouse on a piece of dark cloth and see if this helps. Or in the steps mentioned above, make sure "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby" is UNchecked. Note that you cannot use the mouse to get out of screen saver mode in this option. you will have to tap the spacebar..

Let me know how it goes.

While connected on the internet (wireless) if we leave the computer idle for few minutes without touching anything it disconnects, and takes some time before we can reconnect again. The screen saver is not...

It could be a time-out setting that is on the router or a setting inside the computer. It could also be malware that has gotten in and affected certain settings that mess with the internet. Have you noticed any weird things going on with the computer lately?

Screen Saver no longer runs when Microsoft wireless mouse 3000 is installed.

this is a common problem when using wireless equipment in windows. Especially on Dell notebooks. The PCMService.exe program starts when the computer starts and interaction at some level between this and the Wireless reciever prevents the computer from becoming idle. Therefore, the screen saver and the other idle-related features do not start. this issue may also occur if the PCM and DVDLauncher services are running in the background. This issue also occurs in Windows Vista premium and in Windows Vista Ultimate because of the media center functionality that is built in.

Microsoft reccommends plugging in your wireless device and visiting http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ to get the "optional hardware update" named "Microsoft HID Non-User Input Data Filter." This should fix the problem.

Microsoft also reccommends two possible "workarounds" for this problem if you do not want to install the update or if the update does not work, both are relatively simple:

1- turn off the PCMService.exe program. to do this, first you open the system configuration (start->run->msconfig.exe). on the startup dab of the configuration window, click to clear the PCMService startup item check box. Apply, Close, and if/when prompted, restart your computer.
2- Remove the PowerDVD Software (not advised if you use this software for watching DVD's on your notebook). To do this, open the add or remove programs window (start->run->appwiz.cpl), locate PowerDVD, click change/remove, and follow the steps through for removal of the program.

Background Problem

Check the screen power saving configuration in the display properties. Point the mouse in the blank screen then RIGHT CLICK THE MOUSE in select properties then select SCREEN SAVER click POWER in the power scheme select never for all options and also check the screen saver setting or disable the screen saver for the mean time.

Microsoft wireless 4000

Screen saver mode, as you know, is entered when the computer senses no activity (including mouse) for a defined period of time. for some reason, the computer thinks there's been some kind of activity. If you have an extreamly sensitive mouse, vibrations could be being picked up "tricking" the computer into thinking there is activity.

The other possibility is that the computer might not be able to respond to the mouse if it went into screen saver mode (perhaps a preference setting with the wireless mouse) and has decided that while operating using a wireless mouse screen saver will be deactivated. Look into your preferences or settings relating to the wireless mouse.

Screensaver will not activate...

I would remove the software for your keyboard. This will hand control of the screen saver back over to windows. Some keyboards come with third party software that conflicts with windows. If you want a functional set of "extra stuff" on your keyboard, then your best bet is to try one from another manufacturer.
