Blocked burners blocked orffice , blocked flue , dirty burners , lack of clean air to burn , blocked or dirty air ports lack of servicing pet hairs sucked it to burners . gas presssure to low or high , all will give a yellow flame which will cause soot.
Poor combustion of the fuel. The fuel should burn as a Blue flame, and if the flame has a yellow color to it, it is not burning correctly and creates excessive carbon monoxide. Dirty, or clogged holes that allow the fuel to pass thru or air restriction can cause this issue. It will require immediate attention.
Carbonmonoxide is produce through the combustion products. If you have a crack in your heat exchanger it can spread CO though out your space. VERY VERY VERY VERY DANGEROUS THIS CO WILL KILL YOU!!!!!!!!!
