Your intake hose might be clogged at the bottom ,it the clear hose that comes up from the bottom .you will see it from the back.take the dirt cup off there is a filter inside that most likely is clogged

Loss of suction o=with hose tool

Hose or tool is probably clogged. Is this an upright? Bagged or bagless? Have you changed the bag and filters? Cleaned out the brush and hose that goes from the brush area to the collection bag/cup? The only reason for a vacuum cleaner to lose suction but still work is a clog or dirty filter which blocks the air flow. Follow the air flow from the brushes to the bag/dirt cup. If the machine is bagged, change the bag. I use another vacuum cleaner to do this. While your at it, might as well change the belt.

My Hoover upright U5472-900 runs but there is no suction at all. I have taken it apart and thoroughly cleaned it.

Turn it on. Detatch the cleaning tools handle from it's mount. If it still has no suction, you have a plugged hose. Everything your vacuum does goes through that long hose. Take the 2 screws off where it attacvhes to the unit, then gently push a broom handle through it to release/loosen the clog. You should be able to see through the hose from end to end. Toys, tissue and pine needles are big culprets of clogged hoses.

My attachments tool has no suction. I made sure I have selected tools and I cleaned the lint filter. There is definitely suction in the machine, but it does not come through the attachments hose.

Check the attachment hose for any hindrances like clogged with dirt or object. Also a big hole cracks in hoses will cause suction to divert it outside. Clean the machine to make sure it will provide suction powerfully. Regularly clean it and you will assure it's will perform better.
Thanks for asking.

Vacuum is on and working but no suction from the main power head, I've lost my owners manual laura

Is there suction at the end of the hose? If so, then there's a clog in the power head air flow section. To double check, detach the hose, drop a coin into power head and see if it falls through.
You can clear it by using the hose and crevice tool to **** the clog out from the brush end. If this doesn't work, try using a knitting or crochet needle to pull clog out. It may also be possible to reach it with needle nose pliers.

There is a trouble-shooting site for better explanations.

There is no suction when using as an upright

Detach the hose from power nozzle and check PN for clog. This is the most likely problem if the accessory tools work with the vacuum.

Nothing is going into the waste basket when i vacuume

Do you mean the "bag"? If so you have a clog. The first thing is to check is the on board tool hose. Remove the hose from the machine and check suction at the end of the hose. If you have no suction there the clog is between the end of the hose and the bag. Open the bag door and remove the bag. You will have to use a coat hanger wire, make a small turn at one and slowly put it though hose to unclog. If you have suction there, check the section of hose between there and the head of the vacuum with coat hanger wire. If nothing there, then remove the base plate and check the inlet for the dirt there. You should also check to make sure the belt still turns the brush roller, if not replace it.

Can't get my bissel steam cleaner to sucktion

Check on board switch for tools only or vacuum, is switched to vacuum, as majority of vacuum suction power is diverted to hose/ hand held devices. See if vacuum hose has suction as well? The unit may be clogged with carpet fibresas well and the unit may have to be taken apart and cleaned thoroughly.

No suction when using the hose.

The beater bar is supposed to stop when the vac is upright. Sounds like you have a clog. There are several access points to check, fairly easy to clear obstructions.
